Who's used the $70 quarter skins? Is it literally just the outside face, or does it include the wheelwell lip, the lip over the door jam, and then othewise just flat edge at top and back?

Quarter skins will go into the doojamb, have a full wheel lip, and go into the quarter extension area by the tail light panel. They usually have a couple of inches of material above the side body line. Most body men will install them about 1" down from the side body line because it will be easier to work your plastic filler on the side of the car. The skins usually have more rounded body lines and a broader flange for the wheel lip, making them pretty obvious to someone familiar with Mustang body lines. If you are installing them on a 67 body or a 69 fastback that has a quarter panel scoop or vent, it is easier to leave the vent and the factory sheet metal surrounding it intact and weld the quarter panel skin around it. DO NOT cut out the factory vent from the car or you make a lot of extra work for yourself rebuilding that area in the new skin.------------------ MCA Certified Judge, 1965-1966 66 GT coupe A code, Silver Frost 65 coupe modified - the White Knight 66 convert being restored 95 GT convertible/Cobra clone - black with white leather

Thanks for the info, that's what I was looking for.Next question is, since the panels are stamped different, how does that affect value of the car? Would a quality installation of a skin be just fine or would it be worth the extra effort to put in a full quarter, or even cut a full quarter to what you need and put that in. The quarters I was looking at replacing had rot near the bottom of the C contour, around the wheel lip and on back to the lower rear quarter. Thanks, Sam

With as much rot as you describe you shoudl definately replace them. The amount of labor it takes to change the qtr makes it something you only want to do once. A potential buyer may look at skins as something he's going to have to re-do and might de-value the car. You still haven't mentioned what year and body style....some cars are easier to get good panels for.------------------ MCA Certified Judge, 1965-1966 66 GT coupe A code, Silver Frost 65 coupe modified - the White Knight 66 convert being restored 95 GT convertible/Cobra clone - black with white leather
