New guy here. I don't actually own a Mustang, but am helping a guy build his 66. Here's my problem. I rebuilt the 4100 he had, and after we installed it on the engine it will overflow after about 10 seconds of running. I installed new needle and seats when I rebuilt it. How do I adjust the float level? The new seats and needles are shorter than the old ones. We even reinstalled the old ones with no change. Is there something that holds the float down that I might have forgotten to put back in? The rod the float is attached to, does that just sit in the little slots? It's not held in place with any kind of clip is it? I'm stumped. I'm not real familiar with these Autolites. I tried everything I could think of from past experience with Holleys. Please help, or his wife is going to kill me. She wants it put back together soon!!

Thanks

The floats with the pivot rods are held down with a wire bail. The wire is u-shaped and the ends will attach to the pivot rod on each side of the float, then the 'u' portion goes over the needle and seat assembly and clicks down into a slot on the brass barrel of the seat.

The float level is adjusted by bending the tang that touches the needle valve. If you had a kit, it should have diagrams and float specs.

Ok, I will look at the floats again. I did have a kit, got it from ponycarbs.com. Nice kit, but no diagrams or float specs. Anyone have these they can post or send me? I know it has to be something relatively easy.

Does anyone have a piture of how the floats should look when they are installed. I know I must have put them in wrong. I want to get this fixed for the guy. He is someone I work with.

On a side note, he will have a bunch of parts for sale soon. He is almost done with the project and has a bunch of parts left over. he is in the detroit metro area. I will post them when he has it all figured out. That will make his wife happy too.

Jmanz,
tried to email you but it came back undeliverable. I will be doing a rebuild of a 4100 in my garage tonight. If you still need pictures let me know.

I got it figured out. It's like was posted earlier, the spring comes around and clips to the seat. That holds down the float. I fixed it today, the guy is going to try it tonight. Hopefully it works. If it does, he will be driving by the weekend!
