Just wanted to get some thoughts on running a dual quad setup on my 66 GT. I've obtained an orginal Cobra intake and a pair of Carters, looks just like the setup in the Ford High Performance catalog. I'm doing this more for 'eye candy' than for horsepower. The Carters were rated at 400cfm each, but I tested them on a flowbench to make sure. Without air cleaner they tested at 490 each, with a 6" air cleaner and paper element they came down to 390 each. It's been suggested I don't run them progressive, I should have them both open at the same time. Mild street motor has 500 miles on it, balanced, port-match, CompCams 252H .433 lift, 206 duration, 110 separation. Roller rockers. If I do the dual quads I'll add electronic ignition and Tri-Y headers. I'm not opposed to changing the cam and/or installing a set of pop-up pistons I have. Any thougts?

Eye candy is cool, but keep in mind that over-carbing a small block may actually hurt your performance if the engine doesnt breathe well, ie: stock heads cant process all that fuel. I think your on the right track with adding headers, etc, but you may really benefit from a set of performance heads, or at least get your stock heads ported. Just a thought.

Thanks for the thoughts 68GeeTee...heads are ported but not hogged out, I was really concerned with too much CFM that's why I had them flow-benched. These are actually smaller carbs than the original Ford package I'm told. At lower RPMs I don't think I'll be pushing too much CFM, they have fairly small primaries. ------------------ MCA Certified Judge, 1965-1966 66 GT coupe A code, Silver Frost 65 coupe modified - the White Knight 66 convert being restored 95 GT convertible/Cobra clone - black with white leather

About all that induction system is good for would be looks. Almost any single 4V set up will out perform it. It will work OK as a driver/show car with your current cam as long as you upgrade the ignition and exhuast.------------------ Alex Denysenko Co-Administrator and Moderator NHRA/IHRA/SRA member and licensed Superstock driver MCA member# 53321 NHRA and IHRA SS/LA & SS/MA National Record Holder '00,'01,'02,'03,& '04 First SS/MA in the TENS! Alex, thanks for your reply, and you are right on with what I'm thinking, I'd really be doing it for looks more than performance. I recently sent you an email about some fiberglass springs...thanks for the quick reply. Maybe I'll leave my 4100 on the GT and save the duals for my 66 convertible.------------------ MCA Certified Judge, 1965-1966 66 GT coupe A code, Silver Frost 65 coupe modified - the White Knight 66 convert being restored 95 GT convertible/Cobra clone - black with white leather

Thanks all for the kind words. Although I've been doing Mustangs for almost 25 years I find I'm constantly learning and this forum is a great exchange of ideas. For those of you who have asked, I worked at Mustang of Chicago for about 7 years before purchasing the company from my boss. After being a business owner for about 7 years I decided my passion was 'hands on' rather than shuffling papers for the government (you other small business owners know what I'm talking about). Sold the business and now I'm turning wrenches for the new owner (who, by the way, is a master mechanic, mustang nut, and has a few patents to his credit). I'm finally back to having fun with my mustangs.------------------ MCA Certified Judge, 1965-1966 66 GT coupe A code, Silver Frost 65 coupe modified - the White Knight 66 convert being restored 95 GT convertible/Cobra clone - black with white leather

Thats what it's all about, lifes to short not to have fun. Btw, I have help run a small business for the last 16 years. I'm in no hurry to buy it. I think the dual quads look and sound awesome. ------------------ SCOOP

Scott...Welcome!Way back in 1969 I used to run a 4-sp 67 GT Fastback K-Code with the Lemans cam, headers etc. and threw on the Ford 2-4 setup with Carter Competition Series 500 cfm carbs if my memory serves me correctly. LOOKED MEAN...but like Alex said...ran just as good or better with a single 4!

Scott, My father ran that exact setup on his 65 Hipo Coupe. I remember this setup pulling REALLY hard when he changed the original 4v to the Carters. I loved it (I was younger then and impressionable!) The linkage was a non-progressive straight rod. He set it up to open the back carb almost at WOT. I have the original Ford Performance book somewhere that shows this setup adding 20-30hp. Eight smaller holes are better than 4 large ones. If you have the setup already, RUN IT! ------------------ Scott Halseth National Parts Depot 65 Convt 66 Coupe 03 Coupe

You guys rock!!!! I'm so impressed with the collective knowledge this site has. As I was reading Scotts post (Welcome aboard too!) I was thinking flowbenching, CFM, paper elements, port matched, dual quads, clearly lost and out of my league. I have no idea when I'll be ready for this kind of info but i sure a s**t no where to get when I do. Paul, Yes I'm working on his 69 R-code 428CJ convertible. Down to a few items...need to hook up shifter, install exhaust, put the belts on, bolt on the carb then its ready to run. Shaker air cleaner is mostly done being detailed, the scoop turned out great!
