I am not new to this site. I have changed my username from Firechief1400 to 1969 Fastback it better suites the web site. I have discussed this issue before but with vacuum advance working. I have a Mallory Ignition system on my 69 351W FMX auto. I was getting a lot of predetonation when applying the throttle. I have plugged the vacuum line and it does not ping any longer. But I am not sure that I am getting the proper advance. I have played with the timing from 6 degrees to 12 degrees. Right now it is set at 10 degress. Also I have a 270H Com Cam installed. I know this is just a bandaid, not the fix. I need some pointers on what to do now. Put heavier springs in the distributor or what? What problems will I have running without vacuum?

Whats your total advance and at what RPM. I was having that problem until I adjusted how much total timing I have and when it comes in.It hurt anything to run with it. Check the total timing with the advanced capped off 1st , then hook it up and see how much more timing the advance adds.------------------ SCOOP oddly obsessed with big scoops on little Mustangs 65 coupe,351w,C4,Big Boss 429 hood scoop,8" 3.40 TracLoc. you can adjust exaclty when your vacuum advance comes on. This is different however, from curving your distributor. If you can grab the latest issue of Mustangs and Fords, they had an excellent article on how to do this. [This message has been edited by 68GEETEE (edited 04-01-2004).]
