Hey guys, Alex said not too long ago to hit Napa up for the carb kits.I am rebuilding a 1.12 4100 carb off a 65 galaxie 390, and the base plate says C5AF-F. Napa website doesn't list that specific part number and also says its for a Ford model 4360. The only other listings were for Holley's and 2-v carbs. Is this the right kit?

Also, what's the deal with the secondary diaphram? I understand they're not included in the kits and are hard to find?

Out here in the Philippines we still have warehouses of old stock. There is a repair kit specifically for the 4100 and it includes the secondary diaphragm unless my memory's gone. I think you should look elsewhere. I'm confused if Napa says your C5 carb is a 4360. I thought the 4360 series came after the 4300, which in turn came out in 1968 - didn't it?

I just bought a rebuild kit for my 4100 from NAPA... The counter guy, an older gentleman, informed me that my carb must have been aftermarket, because Mustangs didn't have 4 barrel carbs for 1966. None of his friends who owned mustangs had one, so therefore...I believe my kit includes most everything, although I haven't opened it yet. I'll get a PN tonight when I get home if someone hasn't got it for you before then. Daniel

Thanks Alex, I got it. Now what about that secondary diaphram. The one from this carb is dry cracked all over.I just went to Napa and ordered the kit, and the guy asked where I got the number, he had nothing in the book on autolite carbs (he was trying to look up the secondary diaphram for me). Anyhow, I'll see in the morning if the kit is right (I think it is ), but still no luck on the other. Pony Carbs has them for $16, but I hate to have to order from them and pay shipping. Gotta be a way to get it local. [This message has been edited by sigtauenus (edited 03-26-2004).]

Most quality master kits include the secondary diaphram.

Cool. Hopefully since you recommended the Napa kit it falls under what you consider quality.

If one was not supplied with your new kit let me know and I'll send you one. I have a bunch. Geez, if its not one thing its another. I'll get this eventually.Anyhow, my primary float is rubbing on the front of the housing. Both floats are identical in the offset, but the way the seats are offset it seems like the floats should have opposite offsets as well. I tried moving the float over the shaft, but then it doesn't line up right with the needle. Here's a pic of it (taken BEFORE it got cleaned up). Anyhow, did the guy who sold me this carb put in two secondary floats, or is there a way to just bent it a little so that it doesn't bind up?

Yes, you can bend them to fit. I do it all of the time. You ajust them by bending them. Also test them for leaks in a pot of hot water before reinstalling them.------------------ Alex Denysenko Co-Administrator and Moderator NHRA/IHRA/SRA member and licensed Superstock driver MCA member# 53321 NHRA and IHRA SS/LA & SS/MA National Record Holder '00,'01,'02,'03,& '04 First SS/MA in the TENS! Ok, so the carb I rebuilt I bought off ebay like a year ago and just got around to rebuilding it. Apparently it might have been robbed of some parts before I bought it.Alex, do all 4100's utilize the "equalizer passage baffles?" The one I'm working on is a 65 unit. There's a passage on the side of the bowl that goes from the primary side to the secondary side, and on the diagram of my instruction sheet, it has these little baffles that slide into the opening to each bowl. I picked up another 4100, but its the earlier 63 version, and it has these baffles in it. Also, are both the primary and secondary floats supposed to have a spring float dampner? Again, 63 carb had both, 65 carb only had one. Other than that the 65 carb is just about ready to go.

Yes and yes. All 4100 carbs have the float return spring and the anti slosh baffle plates.------------------ Alex Denysenko Co-Administrator and Moderator NHRA/IHRA/SRA member and licensed Superstock driver MCA member# 53321 NHRA and IHRA SS/LA & SS/MA National Record Holder '00,'01,'02,'03,& '04 First SS/MA in the TENS! I just picked up a kit at NAPA yesterday, their part# 3-361D for $16.95, and it includes the secondary diaphragm. Incidentally, the secondary was in a separate package inside the box and it still had the Standard/Hygrade logo on the packaging. Standard/Hygrade makes these kits and are sold in other parts stores under the number 351D, most countermen refer to them as "jiffy kits".------------------ MCA Certified Judge, 1965-1966 66 GT coupe A code, Silver Frost 65 coupe modified - the White Knight 66 convert being restored 95 GT convertible/Cobra clone - black with white leather

Was it the secondary diaphram for the original metal arm, or the replacement plastic arm?
