Guys, I am building a late-model roller 302 (5.0L) and am planning on using a carbed system. I was planning on using a vintage distributor and changing out the distributor gear to steal or bronze, but a guy is offering me an EFI dizzy from a 5.0L HO as a repayment of some debt. Will this work on a carbed motor, or is this EFI specific? Anything else I need to change to get this to work? Thanks, Daniel

By the way, where can I find the $20 gears? NPD and others have steel gears for around $60 I believe... Daniel

F/L/M dealer, FRPP parts dealer, or MMR. Std OE replacement gear is right at $19 I believe and the FRPP gear M12390B is $29.95------------------ Alex Denysenko Co-Administrator and Moderator NHRA/IHRA/SRA member and licensed Superstock driver MCA member# 53321 NHRA and IHRA SS/LA & SS/MA National Record Holder '00,'01,'02,'03,& '04 First SS/MA in the TENS! So then Alex, these would work with an aftermarket billet steel roller cam for a 302 correct? Which shaft diameter gear would a original 70 mustang single point distributor use to convert the distributor for use in a roller application using a retrofit reduced base circle cam?------------------ 1970 coupe restored with the help of my dad. 306 with 600 holley, Weiand Stealth intake, headers, Comp cam, harland sharp roller rockers, kb pistons, 10.3:1 compression ratio, pertonix ignitor 2 with matched coil, lakewood bellhousing, 4-speed toploader, and 2.79 open 8" rear. I chose to use a Mallory distributor. The part numbers are: 2770401 for dual points and 4770401 for Unilite. These are exact fit replacements for 5.0L but work like, and are sized like the original Ford early distributor. Note: the above p/n's are dual advance part numbers, i.e. mechanical and vaccuum advance. There are other part numbers available should you want mechanical advance, magnetic pickup, or other special variations. What you get with these is a drop in that needs no gear change, and with 2770401 acts exactly like the OEM early dual points (Hi-Po) distributor. Typically $159 and $259 respectively (Summit Racing).[This message has been edited by Jeff (edited 03-17-2004).]
