as of now i have a flex fan and the poor thing overheats no problem. i've been calling around and talked to a guy about an electric fan. he says that i could reverse it and keep the flex. my question to anyone is will this work or is he just trying to sell me the electric fan( which has it's own shroud). i lost mine through overflexing the flex fan. is it better to have the electric fan push or pull? keep them both or one? can they be used together? i'd just get another shroud, but they aren't cheap and i'm not sure what size to use with the flex fan. it's a new 3 core rad, new water pump(uck that was a hassle to find), 20x17( is rad measurement) it's a 68 coupe, new hoses, coolant, thermostat. i think the electric on the outside to push the air would look corny. any other thoughts on the situation?

It will work. One question? What is the distance between your radiator and flex fan now?------------------ Alex Denysenko Co-Administrator and Moderator NHRA/IHRA/SRA member and licensed Superstock driver MCA member# 53321 NHRA and IHRA SS/LA & SS/MA National Record Holder '00,'01,'02,'03,& '04 First SS/MA in the TENS! I don't see how it could look corny. It's a highly functional piece of equipment. Also, no one will see it anyway I have two electric fans pushing, and a clutch fan with shroud for pulling.

Well, that's part of your problem. You need to get that fan as close to the radiator as possible for it to work.------------------ Alex Denysenko Co-Administrator and Moderator NHRA/IHRA/SRA member and licensed Superstock driver MCA member# 53321 NHRA and IHRA SS/LA & SS/MA National Record Holder '00,'01,'02,'03,& '04 First SS/MA in the TENS! I have a '67 coupe with a 460 and am running a 7 blade Ford big block fan without a shroud. It overheats quickly. Are you running a shroud? quote:

I'd lose the flex fan and run a high cfm electric on the motor side. If that doesn't work you can add a pusher in front (but I personally don't like the look). quote:

Pull. Try one first then go to two if necessary. yes. quote:

Agreed. What temp tstat are you running? I made the mistake of running a 160 at first. It didn't allow the coolant enough time to stay in the radiator and cool down. A 180 works best. Also, I am currently switching from the 7 blade Ford fan mentioned above to two 12" Perma Cool high CFM puller fans using a homemade shroud. One fan will be controlled by a variable speed controller and the other by a 185 degree temp switch. The Perma Cool #19008 fan is a 12" fan that pulls 1650 CFM. That's the highest CFM rating I found in a 12". See it at: http://www.perma-cool.com/Catalog/Cat_page16.html I can send you a pic of my new setup if you like. It might give you some ideas. Cheers, Brian

The bad thing about flex fans is that they flatten out at high rpms. IMO the best would be a staggered 6 blade aftermarket fan. http://store.summitracing.com/default.asp?target=search.asp&type= bykeyword&searchtype=both&part=fan&x=20&y=12 part number SUM-G4917This is the type that I'll be using. I'm also using a fan clutch. Also, some type of shroud would help out a lot. 2 edits in 1 day are not good. ------------------ 68 coupe 302 w/C4 PS & AC *update* I'm getting the parts together for a T5 swap. I could not find a shroud to fit my clutch fan. I'm in the process of changing to two 12" electrics with a shroud. I can post a pic later this evening.Brian

I know that this may sound odd, but the electric fan from a late 90's tauras, tuarus, ta... (?) pulls a lot of cfm and has two speeds. It's the one recommended when doing a V8 swap into an S10. If the chevy guys are recommending a ford part it must work pretty good. ------------------ 68 coupe 302 w/C4 PS & AC *update* I'm getting the parts together for a T5 swap.

The Taurus fan really SUCKS! or BLOWS depending on which side you are standing. I have this fan on installed on my car now with no problems. Just be sure to get a good (read: NO $3 Autozone special)Heavy duty relay and some type of temperature switch and you're set.
