I have been looking at some Dist. and I am totally lost. Can anyone tell me everything that I have to change when I go with a new Dist. Looked at Accel, MSD, and Proform. They are all around the same price, but I don't know what all is involved with changing out my stock stuff. Thank you for your time and any info. 289w2bbl but am going 4bbl.

well if you mean stock as in points. I would look at msd ready to run you just need a good electronic type coil (msd)and thats it.Bruce if you want the best msd again takes the cake. Now i run an msd billet no vac advance and a digital6 plus ignition with the blaster coil. Bruce

I want to get away from the points altogether, MSD Pro Billet ready to run is 1 that caught my eye. If I go with this 1, do I just go with the digital 6 plus and the coil, and that's it?

the ready to run is just that it is ready for a coil only,it has everything else it needs. the billet reg not billet ready to run has a choice for vac. adv.(street mostly) or no vac. adv. for the track mostly. irun the no vac. advance one even though im am street and strip.gas milage will suffer but there is more to life than gas milage.Bruce

Jeg's has a HEI for Fords. Here's the link. http://www.jegs.com/cgi-bin/ncommerce3/ProductDisplay?prrfnbr=2486&prmenbr=361I've used a distributor from ProForm before and was very happy with it's performance. I always look to balance price and performance and this was a great deal to me. ------------------ 68 coupe 302 w/C4 PS & AC [This message has been edited by alanq64 (edited 02-27-2004).]

Not bad, just "older" technology. The only real short coming on most Mallory distributors is their lack of a bearing.------------------ Alex Denysenko Co-Administrator and Moderator NHRA/IHRA/SRA member and licensed Superstock driver MCA member# 53321 NHRA and IHRA SS/LA & SS/MA National Record Holder '00,'01,'02,'03,& '04 First SS/MA in the TENS! Well, I am going to go with the Accel Dist. and 1 of the Coils they reccomend. I can get the whole set-up at Jeg's for just under 250.00. Then on to the 4 bbl and intake which is going around 350.00 for both. Any comments on the Weiand Stealth 8020 Aluminum? Thanks to all for your time and info, it is the most help I can find any where.

I also happen to run the Weiand, no comment on that , it runs good ,lot's of power.but on the other hand, this is my only intake i've used..(except for the std 2-bbl) so i can't compare it for you.. maybe the rpm-Airgap is a good alternatif??? i might be looking at one...

Stang 72, did you do the change out on your car, and is there any thing to look for when I do mine? I'm not a mechanic, but I can follow destructions fairly well. I'm hoping it's unbolt the old, bolt on the new, hook up the line and linkage and Tah Dah. Any info on this would be great.

Yep, did everything myself, except machine work... i suggest to get a workshop manual, read it and then calmly do it.... it's an easy swap. as for carb hookups, throttle/choke cables, you've got to make some brackets or something. it's fairly simple. just drain the rad. unhook the tophose, take off the distr. cap, mark it as it sits in place. Pull it out gently, when its lose but still in its housing, mark it again. You will see when you pull it out the rotor is turning clockwise ,when it stops turning it's free from the camshaftgear and thats the position it has to go back in again. Then unbolt the intake mani. from the inside out (refer to the manaul) wedge it out of place ,take it off, clean the heads ,place new gaskets with siliconbeading. and putt it back together again.. now simple isn't it???? good luck Ben
