My 67 has factory air, but the heater never seemed to put out much. Over the weekend I changed the heater hoses and hooked them up correctly, with the hose from the intake to the water valve, then to the passenger side of the heater core, and the other hose going to the water pump. They were backwards before. I also installed a new heater valve, a new fitting in the intake with the tube on it (my old one had the tube cut off) a coolant filter in the heater hose, a mechanical temp guage in the back of the intake manifold, and I flushed out the heater core with air. Not to mention the old heater hose had a kink or two in it.I thought for sure I'd have better heat, but still not much, if any, better! The heater box levers are working fine as far as I can tell. Everyone says thier mustang's put out good heat, so what am I missing? Thanks!

I don't think the venting is blocked or the squirel cage is backwards because it blows air, it just isn't hot, it's barely warm. And The only door that affects hot/cold is the one controlled by the cable, and the arm is working and I can hear it clunk into position in the box so I don't think that's it. The vacuum lines are all new, and I know all the vacuum motors are working properly.

An entire squirel!? I don't think so. Like I said, air blows through the vents, it's just not warm. Not to mention the car has been garage kept for years.

this is a different vehicle but i had a 1984 ford f150 with a clogged heater core. i think that might be your prob just bc air goes through it doesnt mean its clean i had to flush mine out like 20 times to get the crud out of it. fill it half way then cover the holes and shake it upside down and all around. it is so clogged that it is bypassing the core and just passing through the top. did you put any like bar leak stuff for leaky radiators in it latly? jw thats what clogged mine i bet if you got a new heater core it would pump out nice. mine works so good it steams up the windows. try that and let us know------------------ 1966 mustang coupe 200ci 3 speed tranny msd 6a ignition, blaster 2 coil, 2 inch exhaust to a glass pac, stock rear, coming soon single out header, and cold air intake (homemade). white w/ black interior

I guess I'll have to try to flush it out again. I blew air through it from both sides, and I got water to come out from both sides. I guess I assumed it was clear. Maybe that coolant filter I installed will help out too, it goes right in the heater hose.Anybody have a diagram of the heater box itself? My ford manual dosn't really go into detail about how it actually works. I was able to look in the recirculating air vent, and I can see it's not full of leaves in there, but is that the heater core or the evaperator core I'm looking at in there? It dosn't even feel warm to touch after it's been running. I'll have to feel the other side of the box.

i say just get a new heater core if this one is old then it would be a good idea anyway so you dont get the floor wet.------------------ 1966 mustang coupe 200ci 3 speed tranny msd 6a ignition, blaster 2 coil, 2 inch exhaust to a glass pac, stock rear, coming soon single out header, and cold air intake (homemade). white w/ black interior

You said that you blew air through the heater core. Try using a garden hose to see what the water flow is. The core should be free flowing with little restriction.

you've got a point there, but I'll be sorry in the fall when it's getting cold again, but it's still nice enough to drive the car and I don't have any heat. I only drive it a little in the winter, but when I do I'm sorry! I took it to work the last three days now, and it was in the 20s in the morning, and the heater didn't do much. Today on the way home it was in the 50's and it got toasty in there, but the air coming out the vents still didn't seem too warm. I guess a heater core change will be in order soon, both hoses get HOT.

Yea, and it's no fun working in the cold. Plus with work and college I'm tight on time to do anything with it. Come the summer I usually take a brake from classes and take it easy on the work (it's great being young and single!) and have more time to mess around with the cars!
