After a lot of years of stacking stuff on top of my rusted out 65 Mustang, I'm ready to bring my baby back to life. I just purchased a solid 65 Mustang chassis minus engine and trans, former 6 cylinder, and the plan is to use my rusted-out 289 vehicle as a donor car. Suspension swap will be first on the list and Im considering installing the Granada disc brakes as long as Ill have the front suspension apart. Ive done some searching and Ive seen it mentioned that the rotors might not fit the existing wheels. I have a set of the 66 Mustang styled steel wheels (I think they were called Rally wheels) that I dont want to give up. Does anyone know if they will fit the new disc brake rotors? Thanks

Funny I saw this, I was just reading something about the swap here you go:
"Some 14" rims will not clear the Granada rotor (especially the 14" rally wheels!), as the Granada rotor has a very wide snout. This can be turned down by a machine shop if necessary. Its also possible some 14" rims could have clearance problems with the caliper."
I haven't done the swap but I'm sure someone else here has and can verify best of luck though on your swap!

Check this out:

There's also a section on wheels and tires that you might look at as well. Just use the 'Hop To' button at the bottom of this page.

The 66 style wheels will not work with the Granada rotors. I tried them on a 68 which I believe has a similar caliper and it was no go.

Has anyone made the swap from drum to disc and still been able to use their Rally Wheels? If so, what set-up did you run? Thanks

Stainless Steel Brakes basic kit that has the 4 piston calipers, like orig. On a 66 still had to grind a small amount off one caliper.

To get 65-66 styled wheels to fit Granada spindles I took the rotors and laid them flat down on the drill press table with the lug bolts facing up. Then chuck a 3/8" dia. x 1" long round nose carbide burr and run it as fast as it will go. You can then "hand mill" five flats about 1/8" deep x 1" long just inside each lug bolt until the styled wheels fit. This leave the spindles stronger than having to turn them down at a machine shop.

An inexpensive disc swap alternative is the Rod and Custom Motorsports conversion, it uses a GM caliper and some laser cut brackets and stock type rotors. Kit costs $350, includes brackets, calipers and rotors.
A friend just bought that setup and said it looks good.
