Is it necessary to pull off my starter to get the engine date code ?? I need to start ordering the parts for my 289 (?) before I pull the engine out of the body, I just have to verify by getting the engine mfg. date. IS there any other way??, I know the heads are 289, I verified that.. PLEASE respond ASAP, I have today off and need to order my parts (From you Alex)!! THANKS much,, Ron

The block casting number is where the starter bolts up to the bellhousing. So you'll have to remove it to see it.
