I am selling a color coded rally-pac and was contacted by a guy who said the he is an MCA judge (not disputing this)and told me that my rally-pac has been painted and is not the original color. I know for a fact that it has not been painted because I bought it from the original owner of the car and he said he ordered it with the car when he purchased it new. It is a 8000RPM low profile that came out of a 65 K-code fastback, the rally-pac is red as it was color coded and matched to the steering column of the car. The fellow that contacted me said that because the inside of the gage bezel is red it is not correct and should be semi gloss black. All of the 8K color coded rally-pacs I have seen are painted the same as mine, different colors but same paint coverage on all of them. Can anybody confirm or deny his statement. Below I will post the email he sent to me.

Good question. Just got out a low profile 6 grand that originally came out of a parchment/emberglow 66 GT fastback. It was parchment but I changed it to 65 white when I put it in two different cars. The angled part on the inside was and still is a flat/semi flat black. That's the way that one came. Possibly they came both ways. Recently on VM, there was a thread on painting them. CT, 65/6 judge touched on the same topic. I eliminated the wrinkle finish and painted it to mathc the dash with the same finish.

Ok, yes I am an MCA Gold Card Judge for modifieds. Modified are not worried about originality, so who cares....

Just kidding, this is my opinion and not to be confused with the truth..

I thought the 65 ralleye packs had a chrome bezel surrounding the gage front with a black face. The 66 ralleye pack had semi-gloss black on the inside of the gage face hood. Both years wore black exteriors, unless they were ordered with an Interior Decor package then they were color coded to the steering column, but the black hood on the 66 remained to reduce the glare. I could be wrong, it wouldn't be the first time.

MM's was stolen so long ago that I don't remember to tell the truth.

I know that it was black, but them again, so is the interior.

I showed this thread and the photo of your Rally Pak to Mike and Mikal.
They both say the inside around the gauge cluster of 66's was black, as mentioned above to reduce glare. We have two 8000 66 RP's, both with black.

However, Mikal says some late model 65's had the 66 style, which is what your's is John. It might be possible that these late 65's had the same color around the gauges as the body of the housing.

As the others have said, here is some information but not perfect.

Maybe Rick S. knows for certain.
