The only difference is the 6AL has a rpm limiter which you set by changing fuse-like plug in chips. It's nice to have but not crucial for most street cars.

So you dont over rev the motor when you miss a shift. Its more a safty feature then anything else. I went with a 6AL in the car I am building now.

If you have a stock intake, cam, and valve-train, you won't won't need a rev-limiter as the engine will run out of air before you reach an RPM that will hurt the engine (my stock A-code dies at about 4500). If the engine breathes well, you may want one so that you don't over-rev the engine and break it. It's hard to get off the gas when the engine is still pulling at 6000 RPM!

there is nothing wrong with Chevy's. Dont you know they would have been fast if they had ford motors put in them.Bruce

The 6AL probably saved my engine (solid lifters) several times with my screwed up shifting skills. I always thought that a "stock" 289 would rev until the hydraulic lifters gave out (around 5K rpms). So a missed shift could still over rev a stock engine's valvetrain capability. Although it may not cause any real harm, I can't believe it's good for the engine.
