I know this topic has been beat to death (judging by the amount of posts found by the search engine) but that just shows how important a topic it is.

Anyway, I picked up a disc brake set off a 69 Cougar; spindles, new rotors, new calipers, new pads, brackets, new brake lines, master cylinder, and power brake booster. All for $70. Not too bad, I thought. But no proportioning valve.

I want to put onto my '70 Mach, which is manual drum brakes right now. So, my questions:

1. Ball joints, tie rods, etc. that are on the car now are going to be correct?

2. Will I need anything else to put the booster in place, or should I be able to bolt it right in?

3. Plumbing; Do I just hook the front brakes directly into the larger resivoir of the M/C, and hook the rear into the smaller one, with an in-line adjustable prop. valve, with no other things necessary?

Thanks!

That's a smoking deal for $70 bucks. The '69 was the last year of the smaller wheel bearings/spindles, Ford made them bigger in '70. {'69 Boss had the larger bearings/spindles too} Just keep that in mind when you get replacement parts in the future, you'll need to order for '69.

1. The ball joints will interchange, but you'll need new outer tierods.

2. The booster will bolt right up to your firewall, I believe. You may have to remove an adapter plate, I could be wrong, but it will bolt up afterwards.

3. Yes, the rearward, larger reservoir is for the disc calipers.

Thanks Steve. I thought it was a good deal, too. Do I have to get an official power brake pedal assembly for the power conversion part, or will the manual brake pedal work fine?

Edit: Oh yeah, and which tie rod ends will I need, the '69 ones?

Yes, you need the power brake pedal, the geometry is different.

Yes, you need the '69 tie rods. {you already have the '70s. }
