I don't know about a 6, but as I recall a V8s Z-bar has a nylon-like bushing inside the Z-bar tube at either end & a felt washer to help hold the grease inside. Some Z-bars had a grease zert in the center and others needed one.

If I were you, I'd get out my Chilton's book or Jim Osborn Reproductions Manual or see my local FoMoCo parts man and look at his microfische records as to just what is supposed to be at each end. To start the removing process, I'd say disconnect the pushrod R-clips then unbolt the frame mount.....it should come easy from there.

Good Luck!
Ryan

Most Mustang catalog vendors sell new Z-bars, bushings, and other components. Also, check the Z-bar itself as some are worn internally and new nylon bushings wouldn't help much. On the V8 cars, the frame side mount can be unbolted to remove the Z-bar. There are also many other factors that can cause clutch chatter; but since your Z-bar seems to be worn, it won't hurt to start there.

ok so you think it would help? buying the rebuild kit? hes got like a piece of rubber being held on by a cable tie wrapped around so im thinking the z bar is broken at the motor end. we will see im gonna order the rebuild kit first and if i need a new z bar il just have to rig it up again.

I have to say that in my opinion if the clutch is chattering I doubt its the Z-Bar. Even if its worn the spring will take up any slopp. and if you adjust the free play it should not effect it up to a point.

That won't hurt a thing. It can't be a bad thing.
