Hello to all Here is my problem My 72 Mach 1 fastback has the 351c 2v. this engin was fully rebuilt prior to me buying it. All I know about the engine is its fully worked with trw pistons, bored .030 over,3/4 race cam, heads have been ported, performer single plane intake with a Holley 750cfm double pumper on it and headers. now the question is the automatic kickdown is 3" short of reaching the hook up point at the carb. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance. Joe

Yeah but I do remember my 1970 Torino GT with the same engine same trans. At about 30mph if you put the pedal to the floor She just ripped wildly and through you into the back seat as it hit second gear. I just want it to shift correctly on demand. Joe

My Sprint hasn't had one since 1980. I just grabbed the shifter and pull it into second when I wanted it to downshift, but usually just kicking in the secondaries did the trick.------------------ '70 Mustang Mach 1 351C 4V/FMX/3.25 Open '70 Mustang Convertible 250 I6/3 speed/2.79 Open '72 Mustang Sprint Hardtop 351C 4V/FMX/4.30 Trac Loc '94 F-150 XL 5.8L/E4OD/3.55 Limited Slip

I left mine off also - 69' Mustang w/ 351W and Edelbrock Peformer RPM intake and Edelbrock Carb (and FMX trans). My reason was the kick down kit for the carb was crappy looking and didn't appear like it was going to work anyway. But, as mentioned by others, the car still kicks down into 2nd from 3rd while cruising, and also goes into passing gear in "full automatic" just as if the kick down was still attached. Plus, like most I enjoy manually shifting mine as well, so not a problem for me. I also left it off of my daily driven 79' F150 when I rebuilt the 400 in it last year with an Edelbrock intake and carb. No issues with it either. If you want the kick down to work, you'll have to get the appropriate bracket for your aftermarket intake and carb.

I was using a double pumper Holley without kickdown linkage. ------------------ '70 Mustang Mach 1 351C 4V/FMX/3.25 Open '70 Mustang Convertible 250 I6/3 speed/2.79 Open '72 Mustang Sprint Hardtop 351C 4V/FMX/4.30 Trac Loc '94 F-150 XL 5.8L/E4OD/3.55 Limited Slip
