I have a good deal on aluminum GT40X heads but curious how would they be on a 289 for mostly street use with Air Conditioner.?? Would I have any troubles with curzin and some city traffic (not much) but car cruzin shows the cars barely move ?? The car normally put about 3000 miles a year, is that a problem with Alum. heads ?? *** Will the Tri-Y headers I currently have fit on the GT40X alum heads without problems ??? Thanks much for you input,,, Ron N. ------------------ 65-GT350 Clone C4,TYPHOON Intake

I believe you might lower your compression (about a point?) with the GT40X due to the 64(?) cc heads vs the 289's 54cc heads. But, you add breathing (compared to std, non-ported stockers) and take away over 50lbs up front. All in all, a good choice with few negatives. Negatives include the lowered compression (have you thought of a blower or supercharger to restore some of the lost power? ), better heat transfer (meaning you could actually a point higher compression than with cast iron heads with out pinging, but you're going the wrong way). As far as cruising, if you didn't have issues with overheating before, you probably won't now, assuming you weren't on the edge before. This is probably a good time to upgrade from the stock radiator and make sure the water pump and thermostat are working well. If you don't want to replace any of these, at least get a good fan and fan shroud. Good luck, Daniel[This message has been edited by BornInAFord (edited 01-30-2004).]

I believe you are right, Tom. I think that most of the late model crowd get the 64cc, and that you have to check to make sure you are getting the one you want. Daniel
