Big balancer.
8 bolt flex plate and converter if it's an automatic.
Heads will have rocker arm studs and guide plates.
Aluminum intake with a square Holley flange.
Nice big exhaust manifolds.
That should get you going.

> Big balancer.

Was that the HO/Boss 351 part?

With the hydraulic CJ cam? I thought only the Boss and HO
heads were set up with studs and guideplates. Sounds like
it was an HO with hydraulic cam. Were the heads open chamber
or closed? Were the pistons forged or cast flat tops?
Did it get cast aluminum valve covers?

> Aluminum intake with a square Holley flange.

Didn't know that either. Did it have a Holley or a 4300A?

> Nice big exhaust manifolds.

Were these different than the standard 4V manifolds?

After '71, the standard 4V got the CJ cam (258/266 degrees, 0.481"/0.490"
lift, installed 4 degrees retarded). It's pretty common for people to
refer to those as 351CJ's. The '72, '73, '74 models are essentialy
open chamber 4V's with the CJ cam. They have cast pistons (later versions
were dished). If your engine has a spread bore iron 4V intake and 4300D
carb, it's likely you have one of those and not the real 1971 351CJ that
Alex described. Mine had 4 bolts mains and Boss/Ho style oil pan with
baffled pickup and scraper.

Well this engine appears to have a cast iron intake. Personally I thint that this engine is a 70 351c 4v engine I dont think the guy really knows what he has. but is there any way to tell if this is a 4 bolt main block without pulling the pan? numbers or something that would id it? as for a carb it is missing but that seems to be the only thing that is missing. what about the value? I do know that this engine was built by a reputable builder several years ago and never started. there might be paperwork to support rebuild.

Thanks guys

The CJ block has a casting number of D2AE-CA, located on the right side of the block above where the starter mounts.

Only the mechanical cammed Boss 351 and HO used the rocker studs and guide plates.
