OK, the car is coming back from the paint shop in about 5 weeks and then the motor is coming out. The 351W has the stock bottom end, newly rebuilt and currently has an Edelbrock Performer Cam. Too mild, no Lope. I have the funds saved for AFR heads and a new cam. What cam to get for a mean sounding lope, mainly a street car, cruise ins, etc. I want something that sounds wild. Has Edelbrock Performer RPM Intake, Holley 650 DP, Timing gears, Hooker Super comps.------------------ Have a Wonderful Day CandyApple 65 Fastback 351W, Hooker Super Comps,4 Speed Versaille 9" Rear End Global West Front End [email protected] http://photo.starblvd.net/Ekbeanctr

I didn't know that, it pays to ask someone who knows.

Ernie, I'd recomend either as I've run both. The 282 is much more radical, it's a pretty serious street camshaft. At idle, the valvetrain clatter and lope of a mechanical camshaft will make people think twice about drawing the line In fact, if you'd be interested in a 2500 mile (already run in!) 270S with indexed lifters, shoot me an email ------------------ 1965 GT coupe, 333ci aluminum headed/solid cammed stroker, four speed, 3.70:1 9" All Blue Oval, no blue bottle http://mustangsandmore.50megs.com/V8Thumper.html

For a 351W with AFR heads and Supercomps, I'd have to choose the 282S. The 270S works well in street 302's, but the 282S would be my first choice for your 351W. The extra engine displacement will automatically drop the rpm range down around 500rpm over what the same cam would do in a 302. I'd also consider a larger carb. Once it's all together, you might even do a cheap experiment with one of those $99 Proform main bodies with the downleg boosters. It might not be the same as installing a new HP Holley, but it also doesn't cost $700! Some folks (who needed more carb) have had pretty good luck with them. IMO,The 282S is not that "serious" of a cam. I had the same cam in my TFS headed 351W and it did not impress me, not much punch IMO. Definetely didnt have any lope whatsoever. Im not sure why people think the 270S, 282S are so impressive. If you want a nice lope and you are stuck on Comp cams, go with the 292H. That cam sounds wild. If it was my car I would go with a hyd. stick with around 240 or so duration [email protected] or a solid with around 250 @.050.Of course if you have power brakes, they wont like it.
