hello everybody by the time i get down with all my probs my car will be in pefect running order. ok heres the next prob. when i bought the car the kid told me that it would always rattle when i let the clutch out in first gear. he said it is because the clutch in the car is an over sized ceramic racing clutch and pressure plate. does that sound kosher? hell no. it drove and i figured id fix it later . i have to give it alot of gas just so the entire car doesnt shake. and when im in second gear and just let the clutch out it does it alittle bit. so what do you think? i was just going to go out and replace everything in the bellhousing but thanks to this great site solving every problem i have i figured id ask thanks . brian

Clutch chatter is most often caused by a glazed fly wheel or a scored pressure plate.------------------ Alex Denysenko Co-Administrator and Moderator NHRA/IHRA/SRA member and licensed Superstock driver MCA member# 53321 NHRA and IHRA SS/LA & SS/MA National Record Holder '00,'01,'02,&'03 First SS/MA in the TENS! I would think you would want to see what's up before buying everything new. I don't know jack about transmissions, though. Can that glaze be broken and the parts reused, or do you just replace the parts?

well im not sure whats in there. its a 200ci 3 speed so i can drop it and install it myself only weighs 40 lbs or somthing like that but the kid that sold me the car insisted it was a ceramic racing clutch. if this helps he said he went through several trannys i dont know if he beats the hell out of them or doesnt know what hes doing but he blamed it on this super clutch. i think im just gonna pull it off and see what i got .

You have a 6-cyl correct? DO you have a 3-bolt starter? If so, those setups are more prone to chatter than other systems. The clutch disk is rather small and the 3-finger pressure plates these days are all rebuilts, and I know rebuilders who refuse to rebuild that particular pressure plate anymore because they are finicky. However, there are other things to look at. It is a complete mechanical linkage from the clutch pedal all the way to the clutch fork. Any slop in the system can cause a chatter which gets amplified through all the parts. Start at the clutch pedal and work your way through the system. Chances are you'll find right away that your clutch pedal bushings are shot as well as your z-bar pivot bushings. ceramic racing clutch....sounds like BS. Then again, if you don't have a 6 , disregard most of this, but still check out the linkages. Al

I would not plan on replacing ANYTHING until you take it all apart and have a look at EVERYTHING. Z bars rarely wear out. Their bushings do.------------------ Alex Denysenko Co-Administrator and Moderator NHRA/IHRA/SRA member and licensed Superstock driver MCA member# 53321 NHRA and IHRA SS/LA & SS/MA National Record Holder '00,'01,'02,&'03 First SS/MA in the TENS!
