An absolute "piece of cake" installation !!!
Once you have it in place stick something like an ice pick up through the carpet from underneath the car to see where to cut it for the seat bolts and seat belts .

As I remember it wan NOTHING LIKE A HEADLINER INSTALL
I agree that the headliner sucked, especially the second time after the front and rear came loose from the summer heat.
The carpet job wasn't bad. I think the under carpet pad took a little trimming and notching around the tunnel to fit right. Carpet was easy. If possible do it when it's nice and warm, it bends easier.

I just finished putting carpet in mine. I looked at the underlay. It said something about any roofer could do it. Something about a torch and fire. I took it back and just layed the carpet and padding. lol

The fit will depend a lot on what brand carpet you have! The one I bought for my FB fit pretty good but the one the PO of my coupe bought fits like crap. I tried to pull it and reinstall it but it just fits poorly. They say they fit 65-68 but aren?t the tunnels a little different? Other than that you have to pull your seats, doorsills, kick panels, seat belts and the inner ? panels.

Todd I did mine about three years ago. I got a a low dollar carpet. And it didn't fit great. The tunnel doesn't fit right and I had to trim lots off at the door seals. But for my car it made a 100% improvement.

Just like was said before if not possible to heat up in the sun, you need to warm it up with hair drier or heat gun to get all the wrinkles out and make it pliable.

Measure twice before cutting anything and use a good adhesive like 3M. Another thing to remember is if you have to be extremely careful if you have to drill through the carpet for any reason. The drill bits love to cause a run in the carpet!

I just finished restoring my whole interior on my 69 and it turned out pretty good, will post some pictures soon.

Just curious about the drilling through the carpet mentioned by Clark. has anyone tried useing a soldering iron to make the holes? I would think that the heat would also carterize(sp) any loose nylon and avoid unraveling.

I use a new razor and make a small X cut where I need a hole in the carpet. Then I drill away.

My husband and his friend put a new carpet in our '70 Mach and he used a hair dryer on it and the underlayment to soften it up and stretch the wrinkles out. The carpet is easy to install if you use , as Ken said, an ice pick or an awl from underneath where the holes for the seat bolts, belts etc. go. Cut the holes from above like X's as Scoop said. Not a difficult job at all!

Don't EVEN ask my husband about doing a headliner!!! He gave up after the fourth try, and will have the guy's who do it for a living do it! ...Christine

Todd,
Take the carpet out of the box and let it lay out flat for a couple of days, that is if you can't put it in the sun. I have always used a pencil type soldering iron for the holes, locate them with an awl or nail. The soldering iron will melt the nylon and no fraying. The front piece will be the hardest, just center over the shifter hole and go with it. A heat gun works wonders on the heavy duty tar underlayment.

The carpet and underlayment I bought from NPD The whole kit, for a 70 mach Was a peice of cake. It fit like a glove, all the preformed areas were right there lay the carpet down, front and rear, let it relax from shipping ,trial fit it a number of times, take your'e time. oh ya ! the interior must be pulled as formentioned. sit on it kneel on it work it around a bit. When you feel very comfortable about the fit in corners and frount and rear, side to side and so-forth, you shouldn't need to cut any of the carpet. The sills hide a lot , as do the scuff plates .Leave it there if possible. Cut just enough to get it to lay flat, or no bunching in corners.Take your'e time it IS realy that easy! By the way I was surprised to find the back goes over the front buy the seats.Just an observation I saw While having a beer and looking things over before cutting and screwing things down It was easy !

SOOOO did you get the carpet in yet. It's not like your building a motor or something.

Last tip make sure you carpet the inside of the car this time. And don't put any on the rear deck area.
