A set of split headers (3 and 3 Clifford is just one brand) and dual exhaust system will do wonders. Nice small glass pack or mini turbo type mufflers will give you a mellow Jaguar XK-E sound too. Not offensive at all. ------------------ Alex Denysenko Co-Administrator and Moderator NHRA/IHRA/SRA member and licensed Superstock driver MCA member# 53321 NHRA and IHRA SS/LA & SS/MA National Record Holder '00,'01,'02,&'03 First SS/MA in the TENS! Alex, Not to hijack the post to only exhaust, but what size pipes do you recomend if going this route?

I have the dual outlet header from Clifford and a set of turbo mufflers on my son's 68. We went with 2" pipes all the way back. Very nice sound and a real seat of the pants increase in power. You will need to get the port divider in order to make the header work. It is a pain to to get the fit right but its worth the effort.------------------ Scott Akom 65 Coupe (Modified) 68 Coupe (Son's) 2000 GT Conv. (Wifes) 1987 GT Conv. ok i have a brand new exhaust as of august this past summer. i upgraded from the 1 3/4 to 2 inch i was thinking of buying just the single outlet header and just get the pipe streched to fit the 2 1/4 header outlet size. another problem im having is that the holes were the manifold bold into on the head are stripped out from the previous owner. i need to drill and tap them before the header goes on.

You should re-tap and or heli coil the stripped hols for sure. Why waste your time on the single outlet header? Is your new exhaust a single with the transverse muffler? If so, just right it off, and go with the dual collector header and true dual exhast. You will be much happier with the performance, look, and sound overall. ------------------ Alex Denysenko Co-Administrator and Moderator NHRA/IHRA/SRA member and licensed Superstock driver MCA member# 53321 NHRA and IHRA SS/LA & SS/MA National Record Holder '00,'01,'02,&'03 First SS/MA in the TENS! yes my plan was the heli coil the stripped out holes. the reason for the single exhaust is to save money. its just two inch pipe with a 24 inch glass pac. it sounds beautiful when the exhaust manifold is on there tight. plus if i get the dual outlet header then that exhaust is junk bc they say to use 1 3/4 pipe instead of two. its just the most cost effective way is what im looking at. from what i was told i could get a 40 % hp gain just from the header is that true? also the motor has a sticky lifter can i just replace the lifters without anything else?

If it is not a transverse muffler, you can just hang another 2 inch pipe and muffler on the other side. It won't hurt anything, especially if you are using a glass pack.------------------ Alex Denysenko Co-Administrator and Moderator NHRA/IHRA/SRA member and licensed Superstock driver MCA member# 53321 NHRA and IHRA SS/LA & SS/MA National Record Holder '00,'01,'02,&'03 First SS/MA in the TENS! Theres a bunch of different things you can do to "hop up" your lil inline. You can go flat top pistons out of a 2.3l Ford Tempo. That should give you a bit in compression boost since they're flattops instead of factory dished. Also bumping it up to a 2 barrel carb would add a bit, you could fab up your own adapter, or purchase one from somewhere. I know you said you wanted to keep the stock engine for restoration purposes, but I guess it depends on how far your going to take that. If not that far, then there are some great aussie heads out there for the 200 that will give you signifigant power increases. Theres a book called the Falcon Performance Handbook which will supply you with more information than you could ever wish for about your six. Best of luck to you! EDIT: Also swapping to a Duraspark II ignition is a cheap upgrade and relatively simple upgrade. ------------------ Luke '65 coupe 5.0 HO(F-cam, 1.7 Rollers, RPM Intake, Full Length Headers) T-5 Pony Interior, Fac.
