ok maybe some guys here can help me out... i have a 1966 ford mustang 200 ci 3 speed the rear end is loose . what i mean is theres play i spin the drive shaft and i takes some time till the wheels start to turn at all id say about an inch of play in circumferance. i just want to bebuild it what do you think is the problem? i havnt even taken off the diff cover yet to look.

~some~ rotational 'slack' in the driveshaft is normal... up & down or side to side is NOT normal. Fords are notorious for loose gear lash; nothng wrong with it, just the way they were engineered. Unless you're hearing some darn awful noises comming from back there, I wouldn't lose much sleep over it. If you don't know the last time the differential oil was changed, now would probably be a good time for some fresh 80W-90
