i have a mildly built 351 cleveland and since rebuilding it i have a bad hesitation and backfire /cough out of the carb when the throttle is tapped too fast. this occurs wheter in nuetral or in gear. I have replaced carbs (now have a holley 600 cfm vac sec) i am on mysecond distributor which is a stock single point vac advance. I wonder if this could be ignition related and if either the timing chain set may be loose or the cam has end play causing irratic timing? I noticed once when timing that the timing fluctuated widely when tapping the gas even slowly. initial timing is at 14 deg

600 Holley has a #25 primary discharge nozzle.
It is WAY too small for a 351C.
Get a #31 or even #33 nozzle and your hesitation should go away.
