Hey everyone, I'm just about done buffing the clear on my '73 Mach, and I hope to have steering installed this week. Christmas, as you all know, is coming up shortly and it's time to make that wishlist. So here's my deal:

I drove my car around the block and realized that I don't feel like I'm driving the car, it feels as though it is driving me. In my dad's 65 we put poly bushings on the forward lower control arms (strut rods), 1" upper A-arm drop and some beefier sway bars front and rear. That thing can handle. I'm not looking for handling, but more control and tightness in the feel of the car.

I'm currently looking at a 1" front sway bar and a 3/4" rear sway bar, strut rod poly bushings, and rear leaf poly bushings.

What are your opinions and suggestions on these choices? Do you think the leaf poly bushings are worth buying?

Mustangs Plus, 10 minutes from my house, has the sway bar kits for 90 bucks front and rear each and poly strut rod bushings for 20. I'd rather not give them my business, for reasons I'd be willing to discuss another time another place, so do you know of any other places, sacramento area or even mail order, that have these products for a reasonable price?

Thank you all for your help and your opinions/ideas. I wish you all a Merry Christmas.

Alan D.

Tire squeal. It's just the tires screaming "Yay."

THE coolest muscle car site....Okay fine. Yeah it is pretty cool, but maybe not THE coolest. Umm...yeah...good Mustang Pics. Haven't figured out how to make a guestbook, or a small forum so that people can ask questions. I'm lazy like that.

I bought the heavy duty shackles for the leaf springs (as well as 4-1/2 leaf springs) and I think the shackles are a good buy for tighter handling.

But by the sounds of it you may be more in need of an alignment job than anything. I have too much toe out at the moment and it makes the car "wander" especially under braking. New steering components and tighten the box might help too those are things you should do before judging the car to harshly.

Always replace shocks too before getting in too deep. Tired out shocks ruin handling and response and can be had pretty cheap.

Well I have 4 1/2 leafs reverse eye already, and I'll be putting the new box in fairly soon. As soon as I get the new box in I'll get it aligned and go from there. Thanks for the input.

Poly everything you can. Don't install the rear sway bar till you drive it with the front 1" unit first, otherwise you could get too much understeer (or oversteer..can't recall which). I have a 3/4" rear sway bar I'll never use because my front 1 1/8" bar is sufficient (even for a 460).

I'd also suggest a Monte Carlo bar. They make a WORLD of difference on control and tightness.

Merry Christmas!

Hey Brian, do you really like the poly bushings? I'm told that they're pretty rough, for as little 'give' as they have. My car is a straight line deal; rear leaf eye bushings are aluminum but the shackle bushings are still neoprene. I'm concidering poly for the shackle eyes if nothing else...
