I installed an mp3/cd player under the dash of my car. I had a wire going directly from a constant power in the fuse box (cig lighter), and the same setup with the ignition wire. It was working great. Then a lady hit me, not very bad I just have to replace a quarterpanel. Then my radio died. I pulled it out and the fuse on the radio was blown. So I replaced it, and it blew again. So I disconnect my power wire, plug in my radio and the fuse was ok but the radio didn't play because there was no constant power. So I go to the cars fuse box and see that the fuse that the constant power is connected to is blown (guess I had the wire on the wrong side). So I put in a new fuse and connect the power wire to the correct side, I start the car and I hear a little scratching noise out of the speakers like the radio is sending signals and then it dies. The car fuse is blown again but the radio fuse is fine. So what could this be. Thanks for your help.

are there amp wires running or other current carrying wires around where the lady hit you? Sounds like you may have a hot wires touching against the body, frame, ?------------------ http://webpages.charter.net/adragon8u/mystang

The both sets or speaker wire run under the carpet on that side, but I am not sure about an other wires.

I bought the stereo new in july and had it installed in my brothers mustang (thinking I was going to buy it). Then his mustang got in a wreck and was totalled so I clipped the wires and bought a different mustang and installed it myself. It was working between 1 to 2 months before the lady hit me.

remember the fuse for the cigerette lighter is small in size also check your ground connection. I would run it to the battery for constant power. and make sure the switched power is going to something that has enough current potential. Bruce

A fuse blows when there's a short, or an overloaded circuit.Does your cigarette lighter share a common fuse with another circuit? ------------------ '70 Mustang Mach 1 351C 4V/FMX/3.25 Open '70 Mustang Convertible 250 I6/3 speed/2.79 Open '72 Mustang Sprint Coupe 351C 4V/FMX/4.30 Trac Loc '94 F-150 XL 5.8L/E4OD/3.55 Limited Slip

Sounds like a short to me for sure. I'd check the door speaker wires too. ------------------
