I have almost got all of my parts to do a pretty good upgrade on my 289. The last thing that I need is a new timing cover. The old one looks like it sprang a leak, and the previous owner decided to fix it with JB Weld or something. Is it a big project to replace a timing chain cover? Which timing chain cover am I looking for? I have seen some with pointers and some without. Sorry for my ignorance. Has anyone had good luck with a particular brand. Thanks,Micah ------------------ '66, 289 Coupe

I think Ford is your only choice, isn't it? I'd get a used one from a similar year.------------------ '70 Mustang Mach 1 351C 4V/FMX/3.25 Open '70 Mustang Convertible 250 I6/3 speed/2.79 Open '72 Mustang Sprint Coupe 351C 4V/FMX/4.30 Trac Loc '94 F-150 XL 5.8L/E4OD/3.55 Limited Slip

Micah, You can order a new cover from NPD, or most any other Mustang Parts supplier. They have both covers available, with or without the pointer. If you engine is original it should use the cover with the intergral pointer. Changing the cover is not that big of a deal, but you might as well change the timing chain and gears while the covers off. I would also recommend getting a new set of bolts for teh cover and water pump, the water pump bolts are usually in pretty bad condition. ------------------ Ronnie 69 mach1 351W-4V engineless at the time! 70 Torino GT 351C-4v with a "shaker" Mustangs and More Member #23
