My next purchase is looking to be an upgraded exhaust system for my '65 convertible. I was considering the tr-y's versus the repro hi-po manifolds as I'm concerned about ground clearance. As the car sits now on a set of 195/60R14's, there isn't much clearance, and is likely to less following the upcoming shelby control arm mod, so - can any one tell me what distance the tri-y's extend below the bottom of the oil pan? Does anyone have a better recommendation for a good fitting (high ground clearance) set of headers for a power steering, convertible model? I've searched the posts, and I haven't found any answers. Thanks in advance for any suggestions. I know others may not like my tire size selection, but I do.

The tri-y's are sort of a medium length header, aren't they? Could be touch 'n' go where the collector flange hangs. Have you thought about shorty headers? They don't create any ground clearance issues.

I considered shorty headers, but I read somewhere that the performance increase over the repro hi-po manifolds was negligible - which makes some sense. Besides, if you go the shorty header route, you have to fab a connection to the rest of the exhaust system, whereas with the hi-po's everything fits out of the box - so I was going the easy way out. I guess that I should mention that I'm looking for more than 300-325 hp when all the upgrades are complete. I'm still hoping for some feedback from someone with tri-y's that might know the answer to my question about distance above/below the oil pan.

JBA makes a shorty that is supposed to fit early chassis. I don't have a part# though.------------------ 67 Mustang F/B 302 GT-40X FMS Crate engine 5 spd cable clutch13.39 on 205/70/14 BFG @104 mph Flowmasters X Pipe 4.11 9". Anything but HiPos or shorty headers are going to be a struggle for a lowered convertible. I'm up against the same issue.

Shortys or hipo's is the only way to go. You may drag the front crossmember before the exhaust if you tuck it up close to the trans. My exhaust touches over speed bumps at the front of mufflers this may be do to muffler tech not tucking the muffler up high enough in the rear seat wells.
