Hello- This is my first post, but I read your sight all the time. A big THANK YOU to all the regulars for the valuable information that you provide. If I could I'd like to ask a question about installing a V-8 into a 6cyl coupe car. Is there an issue with the front sub assembly that prevents this swap? (other than motor mounts, radiator, springs, harness, exhaust, tranny, rear diff, sway bar) What about that bar between the framerails directly under the engine?

Welcome, Ponyboy. All you need are the engine mounts and insulators, the crossmember will bolt right in, the V8 cars use them too. You already seem familiar with the suspension changes needed. You'll also need to swap sides for the fuel line, but that's no big deal. ------------------ '70 Mustang Mach 1 351C 4V/FMX/3.25 Open '70 Mustang Convertible 250 I6/3 speed/2.79 Open '72 Mustang Sprint Coupe 351C 4V/FMX/4.30 Trac Loc '94 F-150 XL 5.8L/E4OD/3.55 Limited Slip

Welcome to M&M.What year are you installing into? Are you going to the 351C like the title of the post? I changed my 289 to a 351C in my 68 and it was pretty straight forward. Clearances are tight but it fit. Header choices were pretty limited but they are available for the 4V heads at least. In addition to what you have listed in your post, I would also do a 5 lug conversion. ------------------ Lonewolf 1968 Coupe in Pieces

Hi Ponyboy-I agree with the above posts. You sound like you have done your homework on the conversion. You didn't indicate if you plan to continue to drive the car and split the project into different smaller projects. If so, order is VERY important to safety and amount of time it takes you to finish. For example, you want to make all the suspension and braking upgrades first, before adding power/weight of the 351. Also you don't want to have to waste time/money by installing new parts individually, For example, I just rebuilt my front suspension. Before you start you should have every new part, including v8 or granada spindles, and install at once to avoid having to remove/install coil spring more than necessary and to avoid alignment costs. Hope some of this helps you or others reading this, kind of elementary stuff but I didn't think the whole process through logically before I started on mine, and it would have helped to hear it. GOOD LUCK, Dan ------------------ '65 Coupe I6 5 Lug Front/8" rear & V8 suspension conversion Soon to be, T-5 swap---or 302 now?!?!

Thank you Steve,Lonewolf, and Ponycar Dan. I knew I could get the straight scoop here. I've learned an incredible amount from just reading posts.(you provide me with great jokes for work too) I certainly would not have thought about the fuel line until I reached that point. I had a mustang enthusiast tell me that the motor mounts would not bolt into a 6cyl car--only a v-8 car. Everything looked the same to me, but not having seen cleveland mounts yet, I couldn't be sure. I parted a 302 coupe, and I have those mounts and insulators, but I'm going with the 351c. My car is a 1970, the 351c came from a '69 Fairlane. I bought a toploader at an auction--probably out of one of the many late 60's mustangs the owner had disassembled--but I'm not sure. I'm not confident that I understand enough about the rear axle housings in respect to the 9 inch ring gear and pinion assembly bolting into my axle housing. I've been looking for the nodular "N" but it's still hiding from me. Anyway, I bet those axle housings were larger and stronger-weren't they. ? I have the complete rear axle from the '70 302 car and the housings appear the same. I suspect the ring gears are both 8 inch having not opened either up yet. I know my 6cyl coupe was open, and I'm fairly certain the 302 coupe was also. I also retained the front spindles and disc brakes, and power steering from the 302 coupe to replace the drum and "armstrong" steering on the 6cyl. The front springs from the 302 aren't sufficient I don't suppose, plus they are plenty spent I figure. Would you suggest another leaf in the rear also? My 351c has 2 barrel heads on it but I'm searching for the 4--pre-'72, hopefully '69 or '70. As of yet I'm without a bell housing also. What will the clutch pedal assembly entail? Will it mount to a different spot on the framerail? Can I utilize the 6cyl assembly? The car is completely dissasembled although I have left the rear axle in for some mobility. Thanks again Steve, Lonewolf, and Ponycar Dan for your welcomes and knowledge. Ponyboy

You're all set, they are the same. The 302 springs will be fine too. And the clutch set up is the same between 6 and 8, I believe. ------------------ '70 Mustang Mach 1 351C 4V/FMX/3.25 Open '70 Mustang Convertible 250 I6/3 speed/2.79 Open '72 Mustang Sprint Coupe 351C 4V/FMX/4.30 Trac Loc '94 F-150 XL 5.8L/E4OD/3.55 Limited Slip
