Whenever I shut off my car, it sounds like it turns off, then it shakes really bad until it sounds like gas blows out somewhere, then it stops. It doesn't happen every time, but most of the time.

That's called 'dieseling' and it's caused by either your timing too advanced, your carb set too lean, a vacuum leak, your idle set too high, or a malfunctioning idle stop solenoid if so equiped.------------------ '70 Mustang Mach 1 351C 4V/FMX/3.25 Open '70 Mustang Convertible 250 I6/3 speed/2.79 Open '72 Mustang Sprint Coupe 351C 4V/FMX/4.30 Trac Loc '94 F-150 XL 5.8L/E4OD/3.55 Limited Slip

Try running higher octane gas and/or retard the timing.

timing is my guess. You could put in gear then shut it off but it does not fix the problem.

Mine did that for a couple months, so I just got in the habit of letting the clutch out a bit to slow the engine down then turning it off. But like said before it didn't stop the problem. In my case it was the carb running a bit to lean and idling too high.

Well, I just had my engine rebuilt, so I'd be surprised if something was broken. I'll check my idle and carb.

Not broken, out of adjustment is more accurate.------------------ '70 Mustang Mach 1 351C 4V/FMX/3.25 Open '70 Mustang Convertible 250 I6/3 speed/2.79 Open '72 Mustang Sprint Coupe 351C 4V/FMX/4.30 Trac Loc '94 F-150 XL 5.8L/E4OD/3.55 Limited Slip

Like Steve said, probably not broken. It sounds like all you need to do is get your fuel delivery and timing on track and you should be just fine.------------------ JOHN 65 FASTBACK 2+2.....14.44 @ 107mph 1/4 87 TAURUS WAGON 03 F150 XLT SUPER CREW 4X4 SHORT BOX Member:Vancouver Island Mustang Association M&M #1710 65 FASTBACK 2003 F150 XLT SUPER CREW 4X4

Yeah, that's what I meant. I'm horrible with timings, so I'm going to hope it's carb adjustment problems.
