I need to know the thread size and length of your basic arm rest bolts for mounting to the door. I know they're cheap enough if I go to the neighorhood stang store, but I just figured I'd find them at the hardware store instead.

They are about a 3/16 x 1.5 self tapping phillips headed wood screw looking deal.

Thanks Alex. I'm a cheapy. why pay $5 a pair for "authentic" when the hardware store is about .40 a piece.

The biggest pet peeve I have with the previous owner of my Mach was his use of hardware store screws. I'm going to put them all in a bag and mail them back to him. Maybe he can trade them for some used doughnuts.

Authentic stuff isn't that much more than Home Depot 'almost the same' crap and you can tell the difference ten feet away.

I can understand where you're coming from on that Steve. But for armrest screws? As you already know, my stang is far from original and I have no intentions of enterying it into a show. the armresrs are red and are going to be died black, the dash is off of a 65. I hardly think that screws from a hardware store to mount my armrests are really going to deminish the looks or value of my particuler stang(my "frankenstang")

Are these the screws that mount underneath? If so, you're right.

On my car all those nice black phillips head screws holding my dash and other trim have been replaced by big ass silver slotted screws.

Steve: Yes, the ones that mount the arm rest to the door.

In the fastener section of most auto parts stores they have interior trim screws. They even have the screws with the washer on them that are molded to the screw head. I'd go with these before just using hardware store stuff.
