Im asking this for one of my friends. He is planning on running a 302 block with cleveland heads, are there any intakes that will fit this type of combo? Is it possible to run an EFI intake, such as a 5.0? Im asking for either 2V or 4V heads. It would be cool to see a cleveland headed 302 with EFI.

All intakes that fits a Boss 302 will work.
You need to match the runner size,Boss 302 heads are the same as 4V cleveland heads.

How much of a gain over valve size and combustion chamber volume would you gain by using Cleveland heads? And are they bolt ons?

While they WILL bolt right on, this is a hard way to achieve more airflow.
Aftermarket windsor heads will be cheaper in the long run. IMHO there is no good reason to do this swap these days......

Why do you say in the long run? Are there some hidden expenses behind this swap?

I'm not sure of the availability of Boss 302 manifolds. I suspect you will be shopping for used parts and rare ones at that.

Cleveland heads physically bolt up but Clevelands have different water passages at the front of the heads. I can't remember exactly how to modify but you have to drill a water passage in the deck surface of the Cleveland head and plug a water hole in the manifold face. Some Boss 302 manifolds will seal the water hole and some won't.

Hopefully someone who remembers the exact details will respond to the thread.

I agree with Mpcoluv, it would be better to just use some aftermarket Windsor style heads. You will get much better mid-range torque and probably a much higher average horsepower.

In order to make horsepower Boss 302's need to turn 10,000 RPM. That is very expensive.

I think I got it backwards. You have to drill a hole in the manifold face and plug one in the deck face.

Confusion, confusion I haven't messed with Boss 302's since the mid 70's.

You will need to change to Boss 302 pistons ($300 to $500), also need a Boss 302 intake ($300-$400, headers, or Boss 302 exhaust manifolds ($600-$800).....You would be better off using a roller 302, with aluminum after market heads....I own a 70 Boss 302!! Just my $.02 worth...

Not that I would do it again, but didn't somebody buy the tooling from B&A, the Track Boss outfit that produced the 351C head on a 289/302 bolt on intakes?

The B A trackboss was for the 351C 2 barrel heads.....then you had to drill a hole in the cleaveland heads for the water ports..
