Hi i have a little problem i'm 18 and i restored my mustang 2 years ago. I drove it a bit to high school and i want to get something else to drive to college. I've called probably 20 insurance companies and none will allow an 18 to drive the car. Getting the insurance is no problem its in my dad's name, but i won't be covered on the policy. Does anyone know of a company that will cover an 18 year old. Any help would be great thanks.------------------ 64 1/2 coupe, 302, Weiand single plane, Holley 750 DP, 4 spd. Toploader, 3.55 gears

Have you tried Progressive Insurance? They used to cover anybody for big bucks, of course.------------------ '70 Mustang Mach 1 - '70 Mustang Convertible - '72 Mustang Sprint - '94 F-150

Sorry, I misread. So none of the Classic Car companies will cover you? Is your driving record clean? Can your current carrier write a stated value policy for you? ------------------ '70 Mustang Mach 1 - '70 Mustang Convertible - '72 Mustang Sprint - '94 F-150

my driving record is perfect, no tickets or anything. the problem is classic car compaines will sell the insurance to you if you are 25, but you also have to be 25 or older to drive the car. so i need to find a classic car company that will allow an 18 year old to drive the car

If you're with Allstate now, they have a "suspension" plan for classic cars. It's a pain in the butt, but basically it's a full coverage policy on your classic car that you suspend when the car isn't in use. The days you wish to drive the car, you call the agent (or their answering machine if it's after hours) and "activate" the policy. They will then only chharge you a pro-rated amount each month for the days you activated the policy. We did this on my daughters '66 the first year she was in college and home for some weekends. Like I said, it's a pain in the behind to call, but it cut down the cost of her insurance for when the car isn't in use. Otherwise, the suspended policy only costs around $10 every six months. Check it out, it may be what you are lokking for.------------------ Duane 71 Fastback (his) under resto (351C-4V C6 auto) 73 Mach 1 (hers) (351CJ 4 speed) 66 289/2V coupe (daughter Ashley's) 89 LX 2.3 convertible (daughter Amanda's) M & M Member #730

My local Indiana farm bureau sold me my policy and although I am 26 now I dont remember him saying anything about age. Probably because he knows me. Anyway its a bargain. Limited mileage (2500miles/year) but it costs me...wait for it. $2 a month. full coverage, $500 deductable. In fact same coverage I have on all my vehicles. Its covered for its $8000 value. I was shocked when he told me. I only did this a few months ago. Used to have it on a regular daily driver policy for $45 a month until I got the newer car. Keep hunting, I hope that you can get it. Its worth it if you dont drive it much. One tip I have is that if you visit a small office and talk face to face with a guy, sometimes they will work you a deal. My guy gave me the 25 year old rate when I was 24. Often they are underwritten by the same people so you would be surprised the small local business can still get you a good deal. Big companies like Geico will rip off young guys. I was with Geico for 2 years in my early 20's assuming the big guys would give me a good deal. I paid WAY too much. ------------------ '68 coupe 289 C code 66 heads, edel 600cfm carb, performer intake, dual exhaust http://www.geocities.com/ottouk_77/68mustang.htm

I've had my cars insured with them for years. Just put my 66 coupe on them too. They don't care how many miles I put on it either. ------------------ http://webpages.charter.net/adragon8u/mystang

Have you looked into Hagerty Insurance? If not let me know and I'll get you the name of the agent from our MCA club who sells Hagerty policies. He and Hagerty will treat you right...don't know about the 18 yr driver question though.Brian

If you have a garage to park it in at night. They even insure any parts you have for the car too.
