Yet another question for the M&M board members. I've decided on going with a dual quad intake, was going to do the edelbrock F28 with progressive linkage. But the carb's, Considering my income with school and everything, I'm barely going to be able to swing the intake for 259.99 plus the linkage if I can't fab up my own somehow. So my question is, wheres the best place/cheapest place to get carbs in the 450-600 cfm range. And what would be a good price to spend on something along these lines. Electric choke would be great, but I think I can handle the task of a manual considering they looked to be a good bit cheaper, and the weather in Atlanta is never that bad to have to really worry about it that much. So if anyone can point me in the right direction, I was looking at about $200 and up from Summit which seems like a fair price but its hard to picture spending 8-9 hundred on an intake setup. So if anyone has any laying around they want to get rid of or can point me in the right direction of maybe even tell me of a place to find a cheaper intake. I'd appreciate it. Thanks!

Try E-Bay! Lots of carbs new and used at resonable prices. Beats the heck out of Summit or Jegs. Example, Edelbrock 1406 600cfm electric carb is $259.99. E-bay is much cheaper. Ditto ebay. I just bought that edelbrock 1406 for $170 on ebay. Someone bought it, left it in their garage, and now want to get rid of it. The only thing to watch out for is that you don't spend more on shipping than what you would pay at your local parts store. Good luck.------------------ '66, 289 Coupe

That's a lot of money for a carburetion system that will use more fuel and make less horsepower than a single four barrel, isn't it?------------------ '70 Mustang Mach 1 - '70 Mustang Convertible - '72 Mustang Sprint - '94 F-150

You know, I hate to say it, but that's where my knowledge of cars really just goes downhill is on carbs and intakes considering its a rather essential part of the engine. But I thought it was definately a lot of money. But I also thought it would really wake the engine up. Though, what would be a good single four intake/carb combination? I'd much rather stay with the four so I can afford to put some money elsewhere into the car. So any help would be appreciated on this topic. Thanks!

One of the most common mistakes people make is too much carb on stock engines.A 600 cfm carb and a decent manifold is plenty for 75% of the cars out there. ------------------ '70 Mustang Mach 1 - '70 Mustang Convertible - '72 Mustang Sprint - '94 F-150

Pardon my lack of knowledge here, but what would be a good intake to go with? The engine I'm dealing with here is a stock 88 H.O with a F cam.

Thats it, and a Holley 600cfm carb you'd be set.More power and would use less gas then the two fours. But the two fours sound so very sweet. ------------------ SCOOP 2.26 60'S 14.9 @ 90.86MPH 65 coupe,351w,C4,Big Boss 429 hood scoop,8" 3.40 TracLoc. My Pics

Unless you are going the "Show" route and want all of the bling-bling you can get, stay with a single four barrel for alot less hassle, tune-ability, and less worry. ------------------ Mike Golliver MCA Gold Card Judge-Modifieds 65 Kcode coupe 347 stroker modified 5-speed MCA Retired 66 convertible-3 dueces and a 5-speed with a 289 89 T-Bird Super coupe 01 Mustang GT Convt [This message has been edited by kcode (edited 10-30-2003).]

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=36474&item=2439545749 Was cruising E-bay and ran across this, I know its not the edelbrock one, but do you think it'd perform as well or is it just a rip off?

At $140, this Edelbrock Performer might be a better deal for a stock 289:http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?part=EDL%2D2121 Toss a 1406 Edelbrock carb {won't make the most horsepower but it's a great entry level carb}... http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?part=EDL%2D1406 ...and you'd have a nice package for about $400 ------------------ '70 Mustang Mach 1 - '70 Mustang Convertible - '72 Mustang Sprint - '94 F-150

Pro Products is producing "Edelbrock style knock-offs" they are very similar in design. I have not heard if they work as good as an E-brock or not. One thing that is different from the big "E's" is that they do incorporate a rear water passage. This probably keeps them from a patent infringement. They are considerably cheaper.Mike

If street driving is what you want stay away from multi-carbs.A friend had a built motor with 2 4bbls and Edelbrock alum RPM heads.I was running basic stock package, cam, alum intake(performer RPM) and stock iron heads with an AFB 750 carb.I kicked his butt every time out!!Now when he finnaly got high gear over 6k rpm that car was a fast rush, but it was all over by then.
