Lookin' for a nice set of long tube headers for my 65 and wasn't sure of which way to go. What's the advantage of tri-y headers to regular headers? Also, what would be the best brand to go with? I'm not looking to spend a bunch for a set, so I'm going to steer away from jet coating so I might be able to afford a lil bit nicer of headers. But any comments would be appreciated! Thanks!

A real consistent source of discussion in the past has been how bad Heddman Headers fit, but they are inexpensive. If you can afford it go with the Hooker headers, They always seem to fit the best.------------------ Have a Wonderful Day CandyApple 65 Fastback 351W, Hooker Super Comps,4 Speed Versaille 9" Rear End Global West Front End [email protected]

Just mentioned this in another post but you can get the Summit brand headers for around $80 which includes hardware and gaskets. They wont work with a manual trans however. They are also made to fit a wide variety of years and cars so the fit may not be exactly what you want. I'm using them in my 69 with 302. They fit but are tight. Headman's come in exact applications for $120 for short ans long. You can save on the jethot by having the headers sandblasted and painting them with Krylon's extreme high temp paint. It contains ceramic and cures with engine heat and will last a very long time if you make sure there's no rust on the headers before you apply the paint.

Headers are like everything else, how much do you want to spend and what do you want them to do for you. For everyday street driving, you can't beat the Shelby style ti-y's, they are designed to improve your low end torque, most have a 2 1/2 collector, they hug the floor pans better than 4 tube, less hassle over speed bumps in parking lots. If you are looking for higher RPM hp go with a 4 tube long. Again $$$ comes into play. As mentioned Hooker Super comps are probably the best, but they are too expensive for a street car. Hooker Comps are more affordable and are made with thicker tubing, thinner flanges, but will last longer. I have Hooker Comps on my wifes 66 convert. Heddmans are good also, I've had about three sets on my 65 coupe with no problems with fit. 4-tubes will hang down lower and create clearance problems. The choice is yours. ------------------ Mike Golliver MCA Gold Card Judge-Modifieds 65 Kcode coupe 347 stroker modified 5-speed MCA Retired 66 convertible-3 dueces and a 5-speed with a 289 89 T-Bird Super coupe 01 Mustang GT Convt

Are there more difficulties/issues with fitting headers and dual exhaust to a convertible that there are with a coupe/f'back?Also, I didn't realize the Tri-Ys are as good as anything for low-end torque -- that's interesting.

I have a set of Hooker Comps I took off to put Super-Comps on my 65.I have the headers, new bolts that came with S/Cs and the gaskets for between heads and headers. No collecters.$25 plus shipping. They are very solid and had been coated at one time, but the coating is falling off.I used HPC and was not as satisfied as the stock ceramic coating on my S/Cs.
