Hey Folks, Just wondering what you all think about powder coating a water pump and disc brake calipers. Will the seals withstand the heat of the powder coat process (400 degrees)? I know that these parts can get pretty hot during use, but I don't think that they get any where near 400 degrees. Gene I know Summit Racing sells powder coated water pumps. Not sure if they coat them before or after they put the seals in them. On the calipers I'd think they get that hot just from use.------------------ SCOOP 2.26 60'S 14.9 @ 90.86MPH 65 coupe,351w,C4,Big Boss 429 hood scoop,8" 3.40 TracLoc. My Pics

NO WAY !! I made the mistake of trying to coat something with rubber seals. SMOKE AND FIRE!!!!!!!! For this kind of stuff you almost have to use Eastwoods Disc Brake Caliper Paint. ------------------ Have a Wonderful Day CandyApple 65 Fastback 351W, Hooker Super Comps,4 Speed Versaille 9" Rear End Global West Front End [email protected]

the powdwer coating process requires baking the item for a couple hours to set the coating. any rubber part left on will burn up. you can powder coat said parts, they must be disassembled to do it.------------------ 34 coupe powered by 351 c 4v keith

either way the part needs to be disassembled before powdercoating. otherwise rubber parts will burn up.

Not to mention the acid bath that a good quality coater will use to clean the metal will probably do bad things to the rubber as well.

Should be able to disassemble the calipers no problem and powdercoat. Use a kit with plastic plugs for the brake line fittings and the high temp take to mask off the cylinder walls.Never took a waterpump apart before.
