I just had my 625 carter rebuilt 2 weeks ago and the guy that rebuilt it said the accel pump was dirty. I assume an accelerator pump comes with the carb kit. Anyway the car ran great for a day or 2 then started bogging again when I give it gas and doesn't run as good as it did. I put a new fuel filter on it. I also have an electric 50.00 carter fuel pump on it. Anyone have any ideal what causing my problem? Thanks,Tony

I'd take it back and see what the mechanic says. contrary to populer believe, not all repair people are crooks and they're only human like the rest of us. Chance are he may have missed something and will be willing to correct it for you. If not, then give us the creeps name and we'll avoid him

First does the accelerator pump lag in discharging fuel down the throat of the carb? To know the answer to this question, remove the air filter and while looking down the carb (engine "not" running) move the throttle rod toward the firewall. The very moment the rod moves back you should be discharging a stream of fuel down the throat of the carb. The very moment!

Now there could be a chance that the setting could be wrong. However, you explained "the car ran great for a day or 2 then started bogging again." So I'm going to say "that's out" unless you want to try re-positioning the accelerator pump rod on the carb for more "squirt". This is an easy thing to do.

Take it back to "the guy" (if your lost on this issue) while the carb is still on the engine. If by chance he needs to pull the accelerator pump to check the condition of the plunger, he can do so while it is still bolted down on the intake. Just make sure he doesn't do something "stupid" like removing the plunger and moving that piece above the opening of the carb or moving the accelerator throttle rod with the pump removed. If that metering ball goes down the throat of the carb and nobody knows, till it's too late, then you're s.o.l. In fact, insist the opening of the carb is covered before he tears into it. I'm just a little paranoid about such things like this myself.

Lastly, with the weather changing and before running by to "the guy", make sure that the choke is opening fully after it is warmed up (don't know if this might be something you missed?).
