Hi, I am new to this site, I have a 65 mustang fastback with a 351w stroked to 421 ci. It has a lakewood bellhousing with a Ford big block Toploader trans. I am in the process of getting long tube headers for it and am wondering if they will fit with my setup. I am looking at the Hooker Super Comps 6208-1HKR. I was told by Hooker that they will fit, but I also have talked to Mustang's Plus and they said they will not, but could not tell me why. I have the later model motor mounts 66+. I had a set of JBA shorty's that fit just fine, but need long tubes. If you guys have any info, I sure would appreciate it. THANKS

If Hooker says they'll fit and they make them, I'd go with what they say.

According to the Hooker Header site these headers will fit. They do have some footnotes that give a minimum shock tower to shock tower dimension, may have to put in a monte carlo bar to push those shock towers back out if you do not already have one. Here is the footnote: "175) Requires use of 1966 and later motor mounts and frame mounts Ford P.N. D00Z6038G and because of possible chassis sag the shock towers must measure a minimum of 33-3/4" measured between the top of the shocks. Header will fit C-6 transmission."http://www.holley.com/HiOctn/ProdLine/Products/ES/ESHHSCH/EngSwap.html#Ford ------------------ Ronnie 69 mach1 351W-4V engineless at the time! 70 Torino GT 351C-4v with a "shaker" Mustangs and More Member #23

Yeah, I hope Hooker is right, because I want to buy the coated ones. I was just concerned about having to modify them or return them, I don't want to waste money right now on stuff that wont fit. Thanks guys, I guess I will buy them from summit and pray they fit ok.

I had a set of the 6208's on my 69 with a 383W and a C-6. They fit very well. They are listed as beign for a 65-70 with a a 351W. Before I bought them I called Hooker. They told me that the prototype car used to design them was a 65 Mustang with a 351W and C-6.The only possible issue I might see would be the Lakewood Bellhousing. Perhaps you could compare it to a sbf C-6 bellhousing to see it's any bigger. The headers clear a C-6, but barely. In fact, I later swapped it for a powerglide using a JW Ultrabell. Had to notch a non critical section of the Ultrabell to clear a tube on the drivers side. The tubes sort of flare out around the largest part of the bell and then tuck back in close to the trans. Tight enough that the headers have to be removed to pull the trans. That's with a C-6, Powerglide or large bell C-4. A small bell C-4 can be removed with them in place. Later, David Cole

I have exactly the same setup you have. 351W, Lakewood bell hsg, Toploader 4 speed. I got the coated ones - I bought them direct from Jet Hot rather than get the hooker coating. THEY ARE FANTASTIC. I used the 66 motor mounts. The clutch linkage Z-bar is real tight, I bent it slightly so it doesn't rub the headers. The drivers side on mine is tight (I can slide a piece of paper between the headers and the shock tower - barely). Not a bad install, about 45 minutes passenger side, about 3 hours on driver side. Read the instructions when you get them, I didn't and had to loosen driver side and start over (Forgot clutch linkage). I have pics if you want to see them in the car, just email me at [email protected] Ernie------------------ Have a Wonderful Day CandyApple 65 Fastback 351W, Hooker Super Comps,4 Speed Versaille 9" Rear End Global West Front End [email protected]

I just remembered also, You will need to take a die grinder and make a small notch on the driver's side for the clutch linkage to clear the bell housing, because I had to bend the z-bar a little to clear the header pipe. I also have Global West front suspension and I had to trim the bolts that hold the upper control arm slightly because they were in the way of the headers, But if you have stock front suspension you may be OK.------------------ Have a Wonderful Day CandyApple 65 Fastback 351W, Hooker Super Comps,4 Speed Versaille 9" Rear End Global West Front End [email protected]
