Hi guys it's been a while but at long last I have the 66 is on the road. I am now looking at changing the exhaust, I have a set of Tri-Y's to fit so I am going to have to change the rest of the system, and it is a homemade affair that is not too good. So do I build a new system with side exits, or go out the back. I am over in the State's in a couple of weeks, do I get a GT rear valence. Decisions

On the rear valence panel issue ... I had a beaten up panel from a GT with the exhaust exits, and my metalworker guy used it as a pattern to convert two standard panels into GT ones. It was a quick job, and it is impossible to distinguish them from the real thing. Of course, if you don't have a pattern, this isn't easy to do. Have you joined a Stang club over there yet? Maybe someone has one you could use?

If you want to run the pipes out the back, you could just run them straight out below the valance panel. If you want the gt valance panel, they are so cheap through the repop catalogs it isn't even worth messing with an original. (~$35)

Hi Guys, well I think they are going out the back, been in touch with a local shop that build stainless steel systems, and they are going to sort it. When I am over in the State's I will pick-up a rear GT valence. Fastback68 I belong the Mustang Owners Club of Great Britain MOCGB not a large club and spread out all over the country. They have an annual show, which has a good turn out.

Side pipes are grose. Side exits/side exhaust are cool.[This message has been edited by 68DARKHORSE (edited 10-08-2003).]

Side pipes remind me of the old days when the "Pimp Mobiles" were cruising the streets with them. Keep it looking like a mustang not a "Pimp-Mobile" morphing into a "Ricer". Steve, I turned my single exit system into dual pipes and came out under the valence. Its easier on a 68 but I have seen people do it with the earlier style. I have to admit though buying the GT style valence gives it a very professional look and If I had the money I would have do something similar to mine. Mine just terminates in a slight turn down like the single exhaust system but on both sides. It sounds great though. Does a side exit system have lower restriction than an over the rear axle system? If I was racing I might consider the side exit system to reduce pressure, if that really works.

I vote for out the back, with the valence. If you check out the second picture down of my car it has the regular valence with single exhaust.A couple more down and it has the GT valence with 3 inch tips.I wanted the original style tips but they were too small.------------------ 1968 mustang j-code sprint.13.69@101 306cu.in, stock ported heads, weiand exellerator,650 holley DP,hedman hedders, comp 292 Magnum cam,4-speed,8 inch 4.11 detroit locker http://mustangsandmore.50megs.com/MembersPics/mustangboy.html [This message has been edited by mustangboy (edited 10-14-2003).]

Well it is going out the back, I have spoken to the exhaust shop and it is booked in for when I get back from the State's, with the GT Valance. It will also give me more room for the frame connectors, and at a later date the traction bars.

Out the rear valence...definitely. Glad to hear you're going that route!Side pipes are okay for a vintage Corvette...but Mustangs need the GT valence! ...Christine
