One thing I've found in my Stang magazine collection is that they all seem to be totally shameless when it comes to selling the product of a sponsor. I was interested in the following review and wondered if it was true. Can a standard steering mechanism for an early Stang really outperform a rack and pinion? Quote: "The car doesnt feel flighty, and there is still a nice on-center feeling at the wheel that a rack-and-pinion setup completely lacks." http://www.mustangandfords.com/howto/5271/[This message has been edited by Fastback68 (edited 10-06-2003).]

I have installed the Flaming River steering box in my '69. It is a vast improvement over the thirty year old box. However I would not say it is as good much less better than rack and pinion.

I am curious about this as well, I was almost ready to order a Total Control manual rack but read several articles that talked of VERY high steering effort. Has any body used one of these and found this to be true? The power assisted rack at almost 3k including the recommended pump is a budget buster. I talked to a tech at Global West who told me that Flaming River was coming out with a rack of their own. I called them and a tech there said it would be out in a couple of months. Has anybody used a Flaming River bos and the Shelby quick steering kit? This seems like a pretty good choice. My fastback has a 289 4v, C4 trans, and a 9" 3.50 limited slip rear. I intend to upgrade to a 302 roller block with AFR heads and so on during the winter. I am going to re do the front and rear suspension when the motor is out of the way. Dropping the upper arms seems like a natural choice as well as 1" lower springs. Any recommendations on this would really help. Thanks
