Well, I finally did it.I acquired my dream car. '66 Candy Apple Red Mustang Convertible. I guess you would call it a 20 footer (looks great from 20 ft). I have some slight oxidation on the hood and trunk and some mold? on the white convertible top. What are the best products to wash and wax the car with and what is the best product to use on the top. Thanks for all your help. Andy Hendrickson Tampa, FL One other question...I have a Jeep Cherokee that is showing wear in the clear coat. Is there any product that I can use to clean it up as well? Thanks again.

Welcome to M&M, I would start with detailers clay to help get rid of the oxidation, then cut-wax the entire car then hit it with Maguires "gold" wax. Maguires is the only product I use on my 65 fastback and when I had my 68 coupe (candyapple red) Maguires made it shine like it just came out of the paint booth. I use only the top end Maguires products, you get what you pay for. There are alot of products on the market and you will get a bunch of good suggestions here just go with which you feel will work best for you. As far as the clear coat I think you may have to sand it and re-clear it, I really don,t know about this one but somebody here will steer you in the right direction. When it comes to clear, if it's starting to crack and flake...pretty much all you can do is sand, and reclear, like mentioned. Once you start losing clear...you can't use any waxes or anything to replace it.------------------ Gary M. 1946 Ford pickup 1946 Ford pickup 1957 Ford FL 500 Twn Vic 1970 Mustang SportsRoof [This message has been edited by 70SportsRoof (edited 10-02-2003).]

For the top you can go to a local boat yard or dealer and get some canvas top cleaner. The stuff comes in concentrated form and you only need a couple of ounces in a gallon of water. The stuff works AWESOME and makes the top look better than new. Not sure of the brand name, but it is clear pink in color. Hope this helps!!------------------ Duane 71 Fastback (his) under resto (351C-4V C6 auto) 73 Mach 1 (hers) (351CJ 4 speed) 66 289/2V coupe (daughter Ashley's) 89 LX 2.3 convertible (daughter Amanda's) M & M Member #730

Thanks for the info. I had a feeling that the clearcoat was going to be a pain. Thanks for the info on detailing the mustang. I had always intended on buying one and restoring it, but this one dropped in my lap and I couldn't pass it up. 41K original miles, and the interior looks immaculate. Thanks for everything. Andy

Welcome to M&M, however we do require a member have a minimum of 100 posts before we can post pictures. That prevents us from becoming just a place for people to park their pictures. We're had a lot of problems with that in the past.------------------ '70 Mustang Mach 1 - '70 Mustang Convertible - '72 Mustang Sprint - '94 F-150

Steve and everyone,It is not a problem. I was not implying that I should be given a waiver on the 100 post minimun, I was looking for a way to include it in a post in this thread. I don't currently have any web page set up to give a hyper link to. I will have to look in to where I can set up a web page. Thanks
