HI-
Today I was offered a healthy, complete 302 with all the goodies and upgrades out of a friends '69. He is giving me and a couple other guys first shot at it for $150 before he lists it on EBay.
Question is should would it be stupid not to take his offer up? My original plan was to convert my suspension and everything else over to 5 lug(V8 style) and then mod the 200 six already in the car. As my car stands it is essentially a V8 with a six clyinder. Any comments or suggestions on which route I should pursue?

$150.00!! Even if you parted it out you would make that back. Is there a special attachment to the six? If not go with the 302.

If you have already changed your suspension, you have done all the hard work. But the motor!!! Parts alone are worth it

Na, I wouldn't do it. That's to much, by the way can I get his phone number? O.k., o.k. DO IT! You would be crazy not to, that is a steal if it is healthy and has some upgrades. Do it and don't look back!

Price sounds good, but what do you want to do? A built I6 is not something you see every day. Although the V8 can make more power verses a 6 per dollar, do what you want with the car. If your thinking about another project in the near future, the 302 would be good to hold on to for that.

Well, it only took 2 weeks... but I GOT THE ENGINE!

After a long time debating, I decided to go ahead, and do "the swap". After all, how hard could it be Suspension is changed, along with rear-end. What other parts will I need to acquire? Here is what I'm thinking, motor mounts, radiator, hoses...
BTW- I'm also planning a t5 swap, get rid of the c4. I will need to gather those parts also; but have a pretty good idea of what I will need for it.

you may also want new fuel lines.

i'm about to start the I6 to V8 change on my car this weekend. i have all the front end pieces and i'll gradually get the new drivetrain together. did you find it easy enough to do? any tricks i should know about or problems to be aware of? what was the hardest part of the work?

Conversion/rebuilding of the suspension was my first major project, although frustrating at times, relatively was not that hard as I thought it would be. The worst part is busting apart the ball joints in the tight areas up front, but you can basically just unbolt the control arms and steering linkage and remove them as a unit since you will have to replace the spindle w/v8 piece anyway. Read some of the other more recent posts about coil spring safety and rear leaf spring removal tips, as those are also a good thing to keep in mind for this job. Only other advice is to buy the best components you can afford, don't go cheap on any of the parts or you will be replacing parts before you get the job finished(stupid autozone ball joint, don't ask!)
Good luck, Dan
p.s. keep the BFH ready!

I am doing the swap right now. I have installed 70 spindles and disc's, a fox pb booster, a maverick disc master cylinder, 68 ps etup with 70 outer tie rods and a ps box. Since you already have the v8 suspension you probably already have the v8 steering so it should be an easy swap on the motor. the t5 will require the clutch and crossmember pieces and you will probably need your driveshaft shortened but I have never done that swap.
Good luck
