Me either.

Maybe they were assembled while drinking cannonballs.

i contacted the seller & asked him to tell me what the heads are.
quote: cannon ball heads are really well performing heads made by ford, extremely rare.

with this statement,i now have very serious doubts about this motor. i`ve checked all my ford books & found no mention of RARE heads, cannon ball or otherwise. thanks for the help.

He has no idea what he has so he made some crap up to try and make them more appealing to the general masses.

Probably referring to the size of the ports in a 4V head. Kinda like the "Shotgun Hemi", aka Boss 429. Different people develop weird acronyms for things, maybe his buddies call them "Cannonball" becaue it looks like you could fit one in there.

Best way is to get the casting numbers off them and go from there....

this is the original ad:
351 cleveland for sale
400 plus hp with cannon ball heads
0 miles on it
$1600.00 call 908-612-6107 or e-mail at [email protected]

I asked for more specifications & this was the reply:
trw pistons- 10:1 compression/ bored 30 over / rotating assy is blue printed & balanced / cannon ball heads are really well performing heads made by Ford, extremely rare - heads are decked & have 3 angle valve job, rods have been shot peened meaning they are stronger / cam is bigger but lost info on it / stock crank & rockers. block numbers- 2B169318.

i was interested in it to have some spare equipment for my "c" but now i`m kind of shy due to the vague info & cannonball head deal. i`ll find another 1 sooner or later. thanks, just wanted to be sure it wasnt something i didnt know about clevelands.

Decked heads??

Shot peened rods stronger?

This stuff could be worth a little, but the seller is either very uninformed, or trying to B.S. the buyer.

That part is legit, they shot peen connecting rods with steel shot to give them a surface hardening. That's what made Boss 351 rods Boss 351 rods, for example, along with stronger bolts.

I talked to a guy who has a shop around the corner here and he's never heard of "cannonball" heads either. he builds up Harleys, but I still think his knowledge qualifies him as a source of good info. the guy worked for Harvey Crane years back.
here's his page.

Well, yes and no.

The surface is smoothed up and hardened to a degree by shot peening, but the base material the rod is made from is still the same.

Shot peening and beam polishing will eliminate places for stress cracks to begin, but the steel the rod is made from remains the same.

We have had no failures with stock rods other than ones caused by something else. The big disadvantage is weight. They are strong enough for some pretty serious horsepower.

Does the motor have 620# piston return springs? It seems to have everything else!
