Is there such a thing as a shifter that doesn't use a cable for a reverse pattern/manual c6? I keep trashing cables on my b&m shifter. I posted this in racing too.

The best shifter I ever used for a Ford automatic is the stock Mustang style unit. When I had a C6 in my Fairmont before, I had a reverse pattern valve body, so I ground off the detent from the stock Mustang shifter that would normally seperate Drive from 2nd. This way, in low gear, (normally D posistion), a short pull got you 2nd gear, then to get high gear, you just pushed the stock button in the handle & pulled back (normal Low posistion). Cheap, looked factory, worked GREAT, with a sturdy steel rod, instead of a flimsey cable that melts on the headers.PLUS, the detents line up properly, which is something none of the previous Hurst or B&M shifters could provide. I think all the aftermarket shifters were designed for GM cars, thus the detents never really line up right.------------------ 78 Fairmont 428 4 speed 10.20@130mph 80 Fairmont 302 5 speed 12.8@105mph 85 Mustang NHRA Stocker 302 5speed. soon to be under the index! 59 Meteor (Canadian Ford) 2 dr sedan 332, auto 74 F350 ramp truck 390 4spd

Thanks for the Mustang tip. If I fry one more cable, I'm headed to the bone yard to find one.
