Checked out the alternator, and it's putting out 16.7 volts. I'm going to try the adjustments for the regulator that are mentioned in my repair manual. If that doesn't help, then I'll just spend the $11 at autozone for a new one. Thanks for the tips guys.

did you change your alternator recently and not your regulator? this is recomended to change both at once..Might be a great time to change to an eternal regulator that mounts to the back of your alternator.they are around $30.00..Bruce

Sounds like maybe a good idea. I've only had the car about 6 months, and the alternator and regulator were on it when i got it. But if the alternator is putting out a charge, wouldn't that mean the regulator is bad? or am i spinning my wheels?

you are correct to assume the regulator is at fault after all thats its job.16.7 volts can kill your elctrical system not for all componants some actually like that much volts but for the main line no way its to high 14.7 would be great..bruce

My regulator went bad years ago. Battery was overcharging to the point that you could see it spit acid droplets out of the terminal!! I swapped out the regulator, and have never had another problem! (knock on wood)

If you are not worried about originality get a regulator for a newer model that is electronic, they work much better, or some of the Mustang parts house sell a electronic version that looks like the original.------------------ Ronnie 69 mach1 351W-4V engineless at the time! 70 Torino GT 351C-4v with a "shaker" Mustangs and More Member #23
