I need to know how to hook one of these up. I have a 351C with a Holley 750 V/S carb. I had it hooked to the lever on the holley carb made for the kickdown, and put a heavy spring on it to keep it pulled toward the front of the car. Test driving revealed the car wouldn't shift into third. Thinking it was a bad modulator, I replaced it with a white stripe unit. Same problem. So, as a long shot, we unhooked the spring from the kick down rod, allowing the rod to spring back into its resting position (toward the rear of the car). Test driving revealed normal shifts from the tranny. So, I obviously have the operation of the kick-down lever mixed up. How do I hook it up to the holley? Do I need another bracket? Thanks!

Kyle, unlike a Mopar 727 or GM 700R4 tranny, you can drive a C-4, FMX or C-6 without any kickdown linkage installed. They are primarily vacuum controlled by the modulator and will respond normally without the rod. Don't worry about the linkage, drive your car, it will not hurt it. You may have to get an extension for the kickdown rod because of your Holley carb. Look in the Holley catalog, or go to www.holley.com and look in the carb accessories section. It is a $5 part. probably one on the wall at your local speed shop.

The rod should be pulled forward by the spring so as the carb link goes back it pushes the k/d linkage .If the k/d is being activated by having the spring pull it forward you may have to flip the little linkage on the trans .

The trans. came from a '70 Cougar, and it is a floor shift model.
