Anybody care to share your thoughts & experiance with using Com Cams Magnum Roller Rockers on a street performance 289.
Any improvement in engine performance?
Will they fit under stock valve covers?
Can I use poly locks with them?
Can they be used with a solid lifter cam?
Any rocker arm failures?
Can I use the OEM push rods?
Problems of any kind.

When I read the article in the recent car craft magazine it mentioned a stock cammed 302HO motor making 400hp with AFR heads, headers, and 1.7 ratio rockers. The rockers are what tipped the engine over the 400hp mark. I would guess you could pick up a little power with more ratio so long as the valve springs can take it. I dont know anything about brand names, or quality, but more lift and less friction should give it a little more GO.

Have you converted to screw in studs yet? I do not think these will work without screw in studs.

I am running the pro magnum rockers and have no complaints about them. I can not say if they help performance, I installed them when I built the engine. There are no problems fitting the rockers under the stock valve covers, but the poly locks will hit the baffles. I marked the baffles and drilled holes through them where the poly locks hit and never had a problem. You can also use spacers to raise the valve covers and not cut the baffles.

The 'Magnum' rockers are roller tipped/pivot fulcrum, and should clear stock valvecovers fine. You can use poly locks, but they're not likely to fit without tall valvecovers. 'Pro Magnum' rockers are full roller pieces, and must be used with poly locks.

Magnums are good pieces, especially for the price. Pro Magnums are far superior

The Comp Magnum roller tip will work because they use the typical pivot ball and nut. The Pro magnums are roller tip and roller bearing, big difference, the Pro Magnums require the poly lock set up and require more room under the valve cover. I have both on two different motors. As with any roller rocker make sure you are using the correct length pushrods. Check where the roller contacts the valve stem tip as it goes through a complete cycle of opening and closing. Any reduction of internal friction has got to be worth something.

I'm using the Crane Roller rockers.

One suggestion if you need to go to tall valve covers, don't get the Ford MotorSports Polished ones if you live near saltwater, they attract salt like magnets!

Mine look like crap now!

Yes I've had the comp cams, magnum roller tipped rocker on my 306 for years now.I also run polylocks. Not a real big difference in performance but definetly much better than the stock pieces and they won't chew up your vavle tips like the stockers. My stock height rocker covers clear no problem.I got mine cheap as they are actually intended for a small block chevy but the guy ordered a 1.6 ratio like the ford instead of the 1.5 chevy ratio and they wouldn't work for him.The geometry isn't perfect with the chevy's but they seem to work pretty well for me.

I guess the point I was trying to make is he asked if they could be used with a solid lift cam also, so the valve train will need to be adjustable. I do not think you will have much adjustability with the stok pressed in studs, esepcially if they are the positive stop studs. I did not think about the 289 already having stright studs.
