I took my grill off 2 days ago and was wondering what can I use to restore it? Is it safe to use a drill with a wire brush attachment to take of old paint off? Can it damage the grill because it is so thin? What kind of paint should I use? Any thoughts are appreciated. Thanks.

What year car did it come off of? I just did mine a month ago on my 65 and it came out like new. I bead blasted it with no problems at all, straightened out one little bend, now you can not even see where it was. I then used an etching primer on it then painted it 65 grille blue, the original color. This grille is the original grille for the car and now looks like brand new. I personally would not use a drill and wire brush attachment, but that is just me, others on here who have used a drill and brush would be better suited to give you advice on using that particular set up. The best advice I can give you is, take your time and do it correctly, it took me four days to paint my grille so that it came out very nice. One day for primer and three days of one thin coat of paint per day. Just my .02

I gather you may have a '68. Guys! Put the year in your questions. The 68 grille is satin or flat black. I have an excellent 68 original but it looks like sh!t. Bead blasting is the best bet but will sand it down. Wrie wheeling on a 65,67/8 grille may be a bit rough. Am going to sand it with like 220 wet/dry and go to 320. Self etch primer and 1613 Krylon should get the job done. Am also considering the 67 grille blue which is probably the same as the 65, as my 68 is blue.
