Has any one ever-sectioned there trunk floors or know some one that did? Reason I ask is because the rear section of my trunk floor the part that connects to the cross member is rusty but the rest isnt. I figured same gauge bent to shape, flanged then plug welded. I know people section the drop off but what about this area?

Oh and thanks for the replies on a previous post

Depends on if you want the car to be show original. If not, I would go ahead and do what you suggested. I did my 65 Fastback like that and it came out fine.

As to why? On my 72 you have to remove the tailight panel to get the trunk floor in, it won't fit thorough the trunk, and It might go in if you remove the gas tank, but I don't know. If your tailight panel was good, one might want to section the floor to keep from having to remove it and mess up the paint. Just an idea. My tailight panel was bad so we removed it and replaced the trunk flor atthe same time.

Well I guess it would be the same reason some only replace the drop of on the trunk floors. In my opinion some times its better to cut as little as possible. Also the shipping I have to pay is the same price as the part. You wouldnt have some photos of the fastback restoration would you? Again thanks to all who replied

I would section it with a repo trunk floor section. It would blend in with any contours and save time and trouble. Probably look better, also. The repo is a little lighter but it won't hurt anything. Opinion.

Sorry, I don't have any pics. What I did was cut out the bad section using a die grinder. I then took a piece of slightly heavier gauge metal and bent the side that came against the gas tank double, so it would be stiffer and not have a sharp edge, I then bent the same curve in it that the original piece had, MIG welded it in place and painted it. Came out just fine in my car. Ernie

Folded this edge over double so it wouldn't be sharp and makes it much stiffer

it all depends on what you are after. I don't think cuting the floor and putting new peices in is the right way. But it will get the job done. It will never look right from the underside of the car (if you care) Its your call, But if it was me i'd just put the whole floor in.
