Anyone using a Detroit Trutrac limited slip differential? Thinking about installing one on a 9" rearend for my 70 Mach 1. Any pros or cons? Thanks.

I know somebody who has a Detroit Locker rear on a 68 GT 390 and it is rather noisy and when going slow around turns it "jumps" like an SUV 4WD on dry pavement. It did quiet down after a while and he has gotten used to the jumping when parking and turning.

Thay are great! Highly recomend them! If you won't take my word for it call companies that use them in their own racecars! Call Reider Racing and or Currie. Currie uses one in their 65 Mustang Mexico rally car among others and Reider regularly uses them in their 2wd offroad trucks. If handling is your game a Truetrac is your ticket. If you dragrace they can't handle the shock loading of slicks. Currie says they can handle 700 hp engines in racecars all day long. If you use it in a long roadrace make sure you have a rearend cooler as the worm gears to generate heat after long periods.

Heres more info:

http://auto.howstuffworks.com/differential8.htm
Follow links on the pages

Do searches for:
Zexel Torsen
Quaife
T-2,T-3,T-4 torque sensing differentials
tourque bias differentials
Black Gold
Gold trac
automatic traction management

There are many sites that have diagrams on how they work and split away views to see the internals.

Cars that use them:
Hummer, New Jeep Rubicon, Camaro, RX7, BMW,Ford motorsports sells them, Audi, Supra, most early AWD used them as well, like Subaru.

Most classic Mustangers are either classic owners or drag racers. So you won't find very many here using them. Go to any off road or 4WD site and you will find many people love to use them in the front axles of heavy duty rock crawling rigs. The trutrac doesn't cause any steering loss because of the way it works. It actualy helps steering in front axles.
